The payload (not the tow rating) will be your weight limit. You didn't say what size campers you were evaluating or how many people you plan to have with you, but I suggest staying under 7,500 GVWR for the trailer. If you can get a lightweight camper, that's even better as it will give you more margin on the tongue weight.

Exactly. Payload will be your limiting factor. See what your payload sticker says on your driver door sill. I have a 27' foot model trailer, 30' true length. It's definitely been a process getting it all figured out, but depending on amount of passengers it's definitely doable.

Really appreciate all the insight guys. Currently the camper we are eyeing the hardest comes in a 7,000. Which I figured would give me plenty of extra weight to add in for people and supplies and such. I know I don't wanna push the "tow capacity" weight to the max cuz then I'll be over everywhere else. Also why I was checking on the HD tow package cuz without it this trailer woulda been over the limit anyways. Trying to stay around that 27' mark give or take as long as it has room for 7......cuz I have way to many kids ‍♂️ Haha

Make sure that 7,000 is the GVWR, and not the UWV or dry weight. One is the weight unladen, the other is the maximum weight it is rated for with all your belongings.

Also, since you have a Platinum trim, check your yellow payload sticker. The more options, the less payload you have remaining. If you have several children (I have four), I suggest looking at ultralight models. By the time you add mattresses, furniture, etc, your traveling weight will be much higher.

Wind forces increase with larger surface areas. My TT is 25' and I personally would not want to go larger with a small tow vehicle like my Expy. My next truck is going to be an F250, even though I feel I have my Expy dialed in really good, and of course the Ecoboost is a towing beast. 27' may be OK for you with a proper setup, but I don't want to be on the same road when folks talk about their 30' trailer and their Expedition...Just be cautious!...Cheers!

Be very studious as to the categories of weight you will be carrying...Three holding tanks, propane, bodies, hitch, added accessories (batteries, solar, generator, etc.), cooking supplies and groceries, clothes, toys, bicycles, etc. & etc. Then add more because it will happen. Much more enjoyable to go camping with too much tow vehicle then not enough...

Having towed a 6000 lbs fully loaded trailer with a V-10 F350 and 2 Excursion V-10s, I wouldn't tow more than 6000 lbs with my new to me short wheelbase Expedition 5.4L 3.31diff. It's true the V-10s were overkill, but I once tried towing it with a Suburban, and it overheated(had to get towed) on the first hill! The trailer was 25 ft.

Just to add to the post: I have a 2015 XLT w towing pkg. I wouldn't tow more than 80% of capacity 7200 lbs total weight and I'd keep it under the tongue weight of 660. I'm looking to upgrade my RV, but will probably wind up upgrading to a 3/4 ton PU due to weight restrictions with 1/2 tons. I currently tow a 21 ft rv at about 5700 TW.
