Electric trailer brake controller ....
Ok thanks. Then I suppose it does nothing if I don't have electric brakes hooked up to it?
So, what I've been I've been told about 2012 Limited having tow package included is only partially correct? I have both connectors at the hitch but no controller, at least that I can see.

You can have the "Tow Package" without having the electronic brake controller option yes. The electronic brake controller was an additional box to check off when ordering. You can buy an aftermarket controller kit ( Hayes, Reese, Tekonsha...), and install it yourself if you ever feel the need. The harness plug is already there under the dash, near the OBDII plug.
I guess this means my truck has the "tow package" if it has this electric brake controller?
