Hi,

My 2018 Ford Expedition battery was replaced under warranty. It's been dying for quite some time but after 2.5 years, the vehicle started going into "sleep" mode so I knew it was time.

The dealer replaced the battery under warranty. The original battery from the factory had a "blanket" around it that I believe is a heat shield. The dealer did not put this blanket back nor did they put a new one in.

Is this heat shield/blanket needed?

Thanks in advance!

I'd go back to the dealer and ask them why it is missing. They are easily removed from the old battery and put on the new one before setting it back in the tray. Maybe the tech just forgot.

^I agree.

I think they are not heat shields but more for extremely cold weather?
But I'm not positive of that, maybe both?
I dont have any on either of my Expy's.
Can live without that without worry , here.

It's for heat, I have them on my vehicles that came with it and getting 7+ years on average for batteries.

Ford and GM use the shields around the battery - to protect it from high, under hood heat.

Ford refers to the part as a, “heat shield”.
