hello everyone. I just recently purchased a 2015 expedition max it has all the bells and whistles. The problem I am running into is this. The headunit would be work fine (radio) at times if it hit a bump or anything the radio turns off and I cant get it to turn back on. The screen still has the heater control functional just no sound you can connect your phone and it will show up on the screen but no sound . I tried resetting it a few times when this happen and it would work at times and sometimes not. So I purchased the upgraded version sync 3 since I didn't like the look of the sync2 and thought the apim was going bad. it was working fine for a while but now its back, radio goes out hold the buttons to reset it doesn't work, I have to turn off the car to see if it comes back At time it comes back and works fine and at time still nothing. I believe it could be a lose ground, or possible relay. Any advice welcomed at this point.

I think it's just a problem with cutting one of the wires in the speakers or the radio it self.
I hope it is a simple Issue.

So if the speaker is shorting out, will it cause the radio to shut off and not come back right away? I had a bad speaker in my other car and it just made the sound weird.

It could be a safety feature, I had a aftermarket JVC single din that would stop all functions and display check wiring if any of the wires crossed so the radio could be doing something like that, if you have the ability check for codes with forscan you will definitely have APIM codes or radio codes with the issues you have described, let me know what codes you have if you have the ability to do so.

I had a curious issue with intermittent signals that ended up being an unseated ground wire in a connector (just had to push wire back in all the way to seat it). Are there any other systems that are affected when the radio doesn't work? That is how I tracked down mine, the noticable issue was the TPMS failure, but it also knocked out the parking monitor, which was on the same ground. I have the 2015 wiring diagram, will check it for you when I get home. I also had another issue with the AC not responding correctly. When I pulled apart the connector to the blower motor, the connector had some black marks inside that looked like it has been arcing and got burned. If you have the time I would gently pull on any wires in connectors running to the radio and see if they are lose and pull apart all connectors to make sure there aren't any that are discolored inside. It is gonna be a pain in the **** as most of those electronics are up in the dash. Will send some wiring diagram pics when I get home.

So I don’t drive this car all the often but I have noticed that the front and rear parking assist sensor show up a fault. The rear says check monitor sensor and the front say something similar. Where is the ground located so I can check that hopefully that would solve my issues.
