We just bought our Expedition in June and had these Voxx universal headrest units installed in July. Posting here in case anyone has questions or wanted to see what they looked like installed. Below is the link for the units we purchased. We highly recommend them.

How are you liking this system? I am wanting to get this one, but I would like to install one screen in the middle head rest of the 2nd row (bench seat) so the kids in the 3rd row could see better. Think it's possible?

This is possible, but will be annoying when needing to move / fold down the seat. I have a single TV mounted to the right rear window using a suction cup mount, and also because the cigg plug is on the right side in my 2019. Does not interfere with seat movement or entry/exit, and is mounted at top corner of window so all passengers in 3rd row can see it. The Voxxunits look great, but are quite pricey IMO, but they will fit on the center headrest as will the ones I sell. Also, my TV's are 13.3" and have the same if not more functionality than the Voxx units, such as the ambient lighting and FM modulator, etc. They are also 1/3 the price of the Voxx units, so in theory you can pick up 4 screens for less than the 2 Voxx 10.1" screens.

I was thinking of upgrading my 2019 that already has the factory RSE with your setup. What was the cost of the hardware and install with parts/labor? Thanks!

We love it. Debated between the in-headrest units vs these (on-headrest) but ultimately what sold us was that they have their own individual OS so you can download separate apps to each screen and that the parent app allows you to take control from the front to help navigate or set up. This was crucial for us as we have a 4 & 6 year olds. Keep in mind you do need hotspot capability either from the built-in hotspot from the car or your mobile device.

Regarding the 3rd row: I don’t know if it would work mounting one of these on a second row headrest. The headrest is different and if you ever needed to lower the second row it’ll be exposed to scratching etc. You could opt for a flip down unit for the 3rd row. It’s possible even with a sunroof. We thought about it but decided against it as hardly anyone ever rides in the 3rd row in our Expy. See link: https://www.instagram.com/p/CLZ7ryyM7hz/?utm_medium=copy_link

Would be operated via remote and I’m not certain on how it receives its source (app vs set top box unit).

Either way, give Voxx a call and talk to one of their techs about what you think you’d like. They’re super friendly and might be able to give you some additional options.

Holler if you have any questions.

@mamores24 I just purchased a used 2021 that has these installed as well. I'm a little concerned about a janky install because the rear AC outlet doesn't work at all - no green light, no power and to turn the Voxx units on you have to turn the rear climate control on. Do you know if your installer had to tap into utilze either of these to get yours to work? I'm also afraid nothing will be covered under warranty since these are after market installs.

First congrats on the new buy, but yikes on the install. Definitely shouldn't need to turn on the rear climate control to run the TV's. My guess is that the installer tapped into that circuit instead of taking it directly to the fuse box and tapping there. Probably wouldn't cost much to go to an installer and show them what the previous owner did to fix the issue. Untap the TV's to make sure the outlet works, tap at the fuse box, and make sure they function. Depending on the model they installed you should double check that when the auto-start turns on/off that the tv's still run. If it's an older model then you'll need a small capacitor. I ran into that issue as my installer had no clue. Holler if you run into more questions.

Thanks for the feedback. Good call, I’ll look for a reputable AV place around me to check it out.

It's been a couple years. How is the system holding up? Any issues?
