First post here. I had both 21B10 and 21N08 performed by a dealer in NW NJ last week. Mine is a 2018 XLT Max purchased CPO earlier this year. Had 40k miles at time of service last week, I've since put another 1k miles on. Cam phasers were obnoxiously loud prior to the service. Generally compliant now, though I'm not confident this will be a permanent fix. For the time being I'm glad it was a success.

I should also add I use this for work and have already put 11k miles on since purchasing. Overall very pleased, this is my third Expedition, though my first 4th gen.

I received a letter from Ford via snail mail related to these field service actions. I will scan it tomorrow and post it.

I have had the message on my Ford Pass app for a while now and we just received our letter today. I've decided to NOT accept the 21B10 service action when it goes in for service again. I have no noises with mine, the transmission shifts flawlessly, and the best thing: the Auto Start Stop function has stopped working even with a fully-charged battery. The way I look at it, I have plenty to lose and nothing to gain. And, if I got it and it made things worse; I'd have to schedule another service appointment and spend more time bringing it back.

This sounds like the approach to Sync3 issues as reported on the Lincoln Forum...one step forward, two steps back; but, "we're working on it."

I think somewhere in the letter, Ford states that if the update is not performed in a timely manner they may deny warranty coverage related to cam phasers.

I have just received the letter. I have no engine issues, but read the same thing. I’m at 20k. Setting up and doing the old warranty thing is a pain from a logistical standpoint, especially when nothing is actually broken (maybe I just don’t know it, yet?) the deadline to get it done is feb 2022.

Mine didn’t start making the cam phaser noise until about 25,000 miles.

I had my computer flashed yesterday. 2018 with 50k miles on it. I still get the rattle on start up. My dealer said they will now replace the cam phasers under the field service report. Question though....is the rattle coming from the actual cam phasers or the timing chain? Certainly sounds like timing chain slap to me.

Hey, quick question on this update. I have mine scheduled in about two weeks (dealer was scheduling out 4 weeks, nuts) but I was curious for anyone that has done it, and that uses a tuner, does this update change the ECU strategy code?

I don’t intend to do this update, but just so I know in case it gets forced on me somehow (Biden starts running Ford? ) I’m going to email 5* and find out about needing new tune or not…

I wouldn't think so, and I certainly hope it does not. Let us know what 5star says Tunage
