Hello Everyone! Wondering about installing a powered sub to my 2011 EL. I so not have the factory sub and so just looking to see what others have done to add a powered sub to their truck. Have already swapped out the head unit so the system is ready to go for a sub, but looking for something that doesn't take up space and I don't need to be heard from blocks away.

I was thinking about something like this: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSWX130/Pioneer-TS-WX130DA.html?tp=114

But before I go and buy it, thought I would check in with the experts. If you did not already have a factory sub and installed one after the fact,

1) What did you purchase?
2) Where did you place it? (Pictures are awesome)
3) How does it sound?
4) Would you do the same or place it somewhere else in the vehicle?

Thank you!

I put this in the 2000 Expy I had. Went right under the passenger seat, sounded great and super easy install. $179.

If I was in your shoes, I'd get this one. It's a larger woofer and has more output for about the same price.

You're only heard from blocks away if you play it as loud as possible. You can have a good quality sub and play it at reasonable levels.

I've never been a fan of the "hideaway" subs like the pioneer, kicker, alpine. I've installed dozens of them in customer cars. They're ok but in something as large as the expedition you'll probably be disappointed unless you're just trying to add a little low end and nothing more. I had a guy put one in his 80s Monte Carlo and then add a second (didn't want to invade the tunk w wires) and was still underwhelmed.

What is your goal in terms of output and what sort of budget are you working with? Some low end, a little thump, a little more thump, feel it in your chest, or rattle your eyeballs? If you go w a separate amp/sub/enclosure I would expect to spend at least $3-500. Brand, quality of wiring kit, etc make for a very wide range of pricing. Benefit wise you'll get significantly better performance both in output and sound quality, upgradability/can be repaired, dozens if not hundreds of combinations to find what you want and fits your pocketbook.

Appreciate all the replies. I'm not looking for anything more than to add a little more low end to the system. Back in the day I had a set of 10s in the trunk of my car and could be heard 2 blocks away... Overkill now that I'm in my 40s.

Don't waste your money on the Kenwood KSC-PSW8. It's one of the powered (150W RMS, 250W peak) sealed shallow 8" sub enclosures. Maybe in a small car it would've been more impressive, but we have a '12 Expy. It's become the teens' car, could be the crap they listen to at max volumes all the time but it didn't last but about 2-3 months after I handed it over to the kids to drive. Had about a year prior to that and while it worked well, it just didn't have the power to fill that huge rear end of an Expy.

I'm also in my 40s and don't need to make my ears bleed or piss off the neighbors (too much), but the single 8" in a custom sealed box in my '02 F150 also running 150W RMS is much louder and deeper than this thing could ever dream of being. I'm hoping to replace theirs with something else, potentially reusing the amp from the PSW8 for a custom box with another more capable 8" in a not-so-shallow enclosure.
