Good intel, the selling points for me on the Expedition or the increased leg room for kids in the back seats, easier to access third row for kids, better fuel mileage.

When we got our 2018 Expedition, these were amongst the main reasons for making our decision.

We have four kids and usually the babysitter come along for most rides. My older two are in the third row. The leg room there (especially since you can move the second row back and forth) is paramount. Third row seats also fold and accessing them via the tilt and slide function is much better than third row access in the suburban.

I’ve also found the location of the c pillar on suburban essentially robs the third row passengers of their window.

We’ve had our for fourth-gen Expy for 4 years now and 60k miles. Relatively minor repairs all covered under warranty. Looking to keep it for at least 2 more years. I generally move to a new car after 100k miles.

You won’t regret your purchase.

Maybe I missed it but what you didn't say was what year Suburban? 2019 as well? Or you looking at a 2021/22? Major differences.

I personally love driving this thing, but I too have found lots of things that question whether anyone actually tests cars and tries to use their features before a design is marked as done? I recently drove a 21 Denali XL as a rental. There were definitely things I liked about it more, the interior felt a little more luxury to me (IMHO), and a little less F150. But some people like that.

I also don't agree with some of the previous comments about not much different. Yes, they share a tranny, but the engines are vastly different, and so far, I don't think Ford has it all down pat. That is, the number of issues, including major ones? Like phases, where some vehicles are away from their owners for more than a week, getting a pretty major surgery (not to mention at a cost of 3-5K depending on parts, and shop)? The little $250 gift card to everyone for their service issues, tells me Ford knows things aren't good and their trying to stave off some Class Actions, etc.

But also IMHO, GM and Ford are no different right now in their approach to saturate a market with a new vehicle as fast as possible, even knowing there are many unresolved issues, letting consumers find and deal with the issues over time. I have two neighbors with brand new Yukon's and I've seen them both driving loaners numerous times since they took delivery.

Again, I really do enjoy driving this thing, but I personally don't like the reliability nor do I like the service I'm getting from my Ford dealers or Ford Corp, at all. Just my .02. Oh, and there is no way a new engine on this is only 3k, unless it's just a block. My turbo's were nearly that each when they were replaced at 10k. Feel free to find my many other posts, but please know this, my experiences are not the same as everyone else on here.

The biggest issue is that there really are only 2 players in this catagory. Chevy has basically been the king forever in this catagory and I really don't think Ford was any competition until the latest gen. Not saying older gens were bad just that I think Ford's release came at a good time and they gained some significant market. I looked at both when I got my 2019 and hands down I felt the Ford was a better option. If I were looking right now I think it would have been a harder decision but from what I have seen I still would lean to the Expedition. I do think the Suburban Z71 looks good, I wish Ford would have done a little more to their offroad version. I feel like Ford definitely went more "road" than "offroad" with the SUV line. All in all, I am really happy with the Expedition. I would still jump on an Excursion or a 3/4 ton Suburban if they came out again.

I'm also hoping Toyota introduces a strong contender with the redesign of the Sequoia now that the new Tundra has been released. I would have strongly considered a Sequoia when we bought our Expedition, but I couldn't stomach the 10+ year old design at the time. LandCruiser was too small for our needs.

I just don't see Toyota coming out with a Suburban or Max size suv. I am sure a redesign on the Sequoia will be nice but it will be too small for the Suburban/Max users. I actually liked the Sequoia but it just didn't give the cargo space I needed.

I am also a bit surprised by the interior volume and size of the wagoneer/grand wagoneer. I agree, I am also interested to see what Toyota is going to bring in a full size SUV, but I doubt anything to compete with a max/suburban. The new TT motor from Toyota is throwing out some interesting specs, and maybe it won't have a phaser issue :)

Amen to that! I hate these half ton payloads and I don't want a bed... gimme an 8 lug full size suv :)

Add me to the list. I have 3 kids and a travel trailer. I want a 3/4 ton truck for towing stability, but my wife doesn't want to lose the 3rd row of the Expy. An Excursion or Suburban HD would be perfect. GM Defense is making the Suburban HD, but it won't be available to the general public.

Toyota Sequoia/Land Cruiser, Mercedes GLS class, Nissan Armada, those are all full-size SUVs, but they have zero trunk space compared to Suburban/Yukon XL / Expedition MAX. To me they're not real family haulers if you intend to use the third row all the time (as we are). It's the reason I never even looked at them when shopping for our Expy. I looked at cargo volume behind third row and it was no contest.

A family hauler will have passengers in all 3 rows and needs cargo room for all their crap. The aforementioned just don't deliver.

So yes, Expedition Max / Suburban are the only real players in the segment if you need an actual trunk.

I wish the Hummer EV SUV had three rows of seating. It's amazing that they prioritize 1000-hp and 0-60 times in the 3 second range in a 9000-lb behemoth over everyday function. Dumb move on GMs part that only caters to the rich who want another toy. They would have gained a lot of family truck shoppers if they made the Hummer EV SUV a family hauler.

Yeah, the Hummer EV to my knowledge is a shot at the TRX or Raptor (Like you said... a waste). I can't for the life of me understand that super truck segment.... I'd much rather have a normal truck/SUV with a nice trailer setup and a 4 seat pure sport UTV for that kind of money
