I just replaced my 2006 Eddie Bauer 4x4 165k miles and a failed transmission with a 2019 Expedition XLT w/66k miles and the tow package sold as is from a Chrysler dealer

It has several items I need to get addressed:
- Needs two new front tires (it has 3 different brands of tires, 2 on the front and 2 HighCountry XT on the rear)
- The covers on the 3rd row seat hinges are both broken and need to be replaced
- I am going to take the truck to an Austin Ford Dealer to get it fully certified so I know what else I may have to deal with
- Purchase rear cargo matt that will cover the gaps between the seat rows to protect the dogs from falling through
- I am debating whether I should get an extended warranty since the drivetrain coverage is done

I plan on driving this truck until the wheels fall off.

Questions I am looking for input on:
1. What are the 3rd seat mechanical flaps called in the Ford parts book?
2. Recommendations on extended warranty coverages and providers? We are Dave Ramsey financial peace followers and are not sold on extended warranty. We paid cash for the truck ad we have emergency fund in place if needed. Looks from some pros/cos based on actual experience with the 4th Gen trucks
3. What solutions do y'all use for rear cargo area protection? I hate the large gaps between especially when 2nd and 3rd rows are both down. I wish Ford would create a completely flat cargo surface; my hunting dogs have nearly broken legs when moving field to field
4. Any other issues that I should be on the lookout for?

Re the warranty, Flood and Lombard are probably who most use. I decline extended warranties on everything, but I'm glad I had one for my Expedition. At dealer rates, I racked up nearly $16k in parts/labor between 75k and 100k. YMMV

Thanks manuporshutup. What kind if issues ran up those kinds of costs?

It's been about 6 years, but off the top of my head:
1. oil pan leak repaired
2. climate-controlled seats - nearly all components replaced
3. climate control panel replaced
4. blower motor replaced
5. 2 idler pulleys replaced
6. both power running boards replaced
7. backup camera replaced
8. rear strut replaced (2nd rear failed just outside warranty)
9. front diff leak repaired

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Your Expedition is out of warranty and I don't think you can buy extended warranty from those places. I paid $1800 for my 72 months/100k miles from Lumbard Ford when mine was about 1000 miles.

I am going to get a quote from Lombard (Flood wouldn't provide option to buy) before I go to my local Ford dealer to get a full inspection so I know what I am dealing with. It sounds like with all the extra tech in these, it may be worth the warranty.

So I got the warranty from Lombard Ford (60,000/4yrs) premium esp / $200 deductible + key fob coverage.
$2343 plus inspection.

I also replaced the front two tires mentioned above with Bridgestone Duelers from Discount Tires.

Left to still get:
- need to replace the 3rd row seat flip up cover which is broken. Does anyone have place to lookup the part number for this interior cargo panel?
- when they rotated the tires the surface rust on the rear suspension is not out of control but it was worse than I first saw when I got under the vehicle at the dealership. Is there a way to clean the rust and then protect the cleaned surface?

Check www.Ford.Parts.com for the seat piece. A really good way to slow the rust is to spray over it with a Cosmoline or wool wax like RP342 or Fluid film coatings. They have both products in black. Best to spray right over the pieces rather than try to remove the surface rust since that could do more damage by trying to remove the rust since some of the rust proof coating around it would also be removed and it will come back worse. Going right over it is best and every other year you can touch it up or respray the spots were it wears off. The black also looks great. In the salt belts, a lot of truck guys spray the whole under carriage except the exhaust and engine / trans (check YouTube for some videos). Also good idea to drop the spare tire and look around above it and spray the frame and tire mount areas. Doing the whole frame and suspension is best as well as the body mount areas. The body itself is aluminum so no worries about that.
