Hi everyone! First post here. I have a 2022 expy max platinum on order. Didn't order the HD tow package because I heard that it makes the truck ride rougher. (Ride is our top priority)

Do you know if there's any truth to that?

TIA

Noone has rele verified this. Holistically, no the ride shouldn't change much if at all. I also would think that ford retuned the suspension for 2022 so the difference would be even more mute than current.

If you didn't order the HD tow pkg. it probably means you don't plan on doing much heavy towing. I didn't plan on towing heavy either, but back when I ordered our truck, the HD tow package was more inclusive and included the 3.73 axles and the E-locker. I ordered ours specifically for the 3.73 axles and any additional cooling it might offer. Didn't want a big vehicle that couldn't keep up with traffic, or the AZ heat.

Yeah I ordered the eLSD, so should get the gears. It would be nice to have the tow package, but not if it's going to mess with the ride

My '21 came with the max tow package and I find the ride is smooth with the P rated Michelin tires. I like the 3.73 gears matched with the 10 speed transmission.

I haven't seen any 2022 details on the HD tow package, but the prior years, I only have seen the HD Tow package include directly from Ford's documentation:
- HD Radiator
- Trailer Backup Assist
- ELSD (now separate)
- Integrated Trailer Brake Controller
- 4L / Neutral Towing Capability

If they retuned the suspension, I would expect Ford to make note of this.

Nowhere does it state retuned suspension. I also have not heard of a case here that HD tow rides harsher than non.

According to parts.ford.com, there is a different part number for the rear springs on the HD tow package for the 2019’s.

The HD radiator has been removed from the HD trailer package for 2022 and appears to only be available with the Timberline trim. If you get the ELSD package the trailer package only seems to add the beaker controller and back up assist, while also deleting active park assist.

yes, it looks like they are different. I originally saw posts that the springs are the same, but looking into the parts site, I expect the springs and shocks all to be different.

What's interesting is that the coil spring "Part number" lists the same with and without HD tow, but the rear shocks are all different (CCD/non, FX4, etc....). I assume the ford part site doesn't get into the 10 digit true PN.

The mystery continues! But at least I know the it doesn't come with an upgraded radiator and that the shocks and springs are slightly different. I feel a little better about my decision.
