Hi everybody,

Was cleaning the windshield and found this down by where the wiper connects. Shown with key for size comparison.

Any ideas?3dff9bc9db02c6b7546c04c155900681.jpg

It's the key that secures the wiper arms. There should be a notch in the wiper and one on the actual knob that the arm mounts to. This allows you to properly "clock" the arm so that it doesn't leave the edge of the glass during operation. Failing to do so may allow the arm to strike the pillar or the cowl.

Thats the key that holds the wiper arm on the shaft. Without this, the wiper arm can fall off!

That's not true.

It's just an alignment key from the factory so the wipers are indexed correctly.

When you flip up your wiper arm it takes the tension off and they can fall out.

You don't have to put it back in, they fall out all the time on the 17+ superduty.

I found one of mine last year and discarded it, I had no idea what it was and it didn’t occur to me it could be a part from the car. So far so good with my wipers.

I found mine in the plastic by the wiper today. I will try to re-install it later tonight. Thank you for this thread.

It’s a woodruff key from the wiper splines where they attach to the splined shaft. I found these a while back too and kept putting them back - and eventually they’d fall out again. I gave up after a while and it appears they are not critical. They help to secure the blade to the shaft. Mine have been missing for 2 years now…!
