My 30,000 mile 2017 Expedition just lit the CEL and shows P0430 Permanet (Catalyst System bank 2) as the issue. Since the vehicle is still under warranty it's going to the dealer for repair.

What should I expect regarding repair? Time needed? Etc.

First issue with this truck.

I reset it (just 'cuz I could) but it came back the next day. Any link to the aftermarket catch can?

Chuck, Go do an Italian tune-up on it. That CEL is typically caused by a clogged CAT. Go do a few full throttle accel runs up on to the interstate, like the 288 Ramp@Hull or Midlo. Do that, then do a reset and see if it comes back.

If it does come back, they will probably check the sensors near/in the Cat and make sure they are good. If those aren't the issue that cat will need to be replaced...and guess they are not in plentiful supply right now.

EDIT: Added some clarity, and fixed my run on Sentence...I think my intent was communicated. Blow it out, clear codes, if they stay gone, you are good. If not take it in.

If the dealer is any good at diagnostics, he'll read the output of the oxygen sensors, most likely find one of the downstream sensors defective or a connector loose and change the $30 part. If he does a warranty replacement of a catalytic converter with 30,000 miles on it, I really think he's robbing from Ford.

Agree 100%, but sometimes low mileage for the years will kill a Cat. Short trips or very easy driving where the cats don't get up to temp can cause premature failure.

Thanks for the help.

Been a whole week! but few miles since the famous Italian tune and the light remains out. Scan tool indicates a "permanent" code (or similar) but the CEL is out. Still taking it in for maintenance in a month since it's still in warranty. I vaguely remember the CEL lighting once during the first couple of months of owning this truck but it went out almost immediately.

Yeah, not going to hurt at all for them to take a look. Glad to help.

UPDATE (kinda):

The truck spent all day yesterday at the Ford dealer. Got a call late afternoon that the #2 catalytic converter was doing nothing and was toast. Service manager went into what it was going to cost me to have this repaired and that I would have to pay all parts costs (pushing $2000) up front, before they'd order them. I listened courteously and then asked what happened to the 8-year, 80,000-mile emissions warranty. Long pause followed by "I'll have to check on this." 10 minutes later I received an email with the invoice and amount due: $0.00. Not even the $150 "diagnostic charge" they'd quoted earlier.

Anyway parts are, of course, back ordered but they claimed they ordered them and would contact me when they came in. Good thing I've got another 3 years and 50,000 miles on this warranty.

Got a loaner car for the day. Brand new Bronco Sport with 6 or 7 miles on the odometer. Sync 3.4 no-navigation. Nice little car. Drove my wife to tears as the engine kept shutting off at stoplights and in road construction traffic and she had to constantly restart it by pressing the Start button! Yep, her first time driving this horrible stop-start system. She was fine once she realized she just had to take her foot off the brake or press the accelerator for an automatic restart. She did think the "Outer Banks Edition" was kool badging -- she was there last week.

How convenient that they forgot about the warranty. Got you got it resolved without paying. I hate stealerships.

@chuck s did you ever get your back ordered cats, if so how long did it take? I've been waiting for cats for a month now with no estimated time of availability. I have a 2019 so maybe they're different part number but I was just wandering how long it took for you.
