I've read about the cam issues in the 3.5, can these mechanical issues be resolved? The carfax shows this 2018 has been in the shop a couple of times.

I have a 2018 that just hit 51,000 miles and I have never had it in the shop for any reason. Runs flawlessly. Tons of power. I have towed a lot with it and have been very pleased. It is just lately starting to have the cold start rattle issue. If I can get that repair done and have it last another 50,000 miles til it possibly needs it again, I am ok with it. It’s stupid that they have this design flaw with the engine, but it’s such a good vehicle other than that, that it is worth fixing and keeping. My only other complaint is the creaking noise from the panoramic roof.

Yes, same engine in the F150.

And yes, if you go to the chat forum for F150 owners you will find the same thing occurring in the trucks.

And unfortunately, there is little that can be done from a legal perspective since the design problem does not result in a safety issue, merely a performance/ longevity concern.
Recalls are typically issued for manufacturer design flaws that result in safety issues.

Ford has actually claimed that the cam phaser rattle in no way affects vehicle performance, and is only offering “repairs” as a customer satisfaction campaign.

Of course once your vehicle is out of warranty, they will stop “caring” about your satisfaction and then I guess we’ll see just how long that condition can exist before causing engine mechanical timing failure.
How is the engine quitting on the freeway not a safety issue?

Well I don’t think the worst case failure would actually seize the engine, and full drivetrain and lock her down at 80 on the freeway. :D

I mean even if timing failed you’d just limp to the shoulder cursing like a sailor.

They can fix the panoramic roof creaking. Search this forum. There’s a few threads on it.
Mine was driving me batshlt crazy and I took it in to the dealership to fix it. Never heard another peep from it and that was 50,000 miles ago.

But your statement about you being “ok” with the occasional cam phaser replacement….

We are not aligned. :roflsquared:
