We have a 2019 Exp MAX and wanted to make fellow owners aware of a clear coat issue and paint problem. Firstly, I’ve hand washed, waxed, and sealed my Exp since we’ve owned it new with nothing but top of the line Meguiars products. It has never been through an automatic car wash or even washed by the dealer after servicing. Our Exp was about a year old with 10kmi.

I noticed a blemish on the passenger side headlight and after a closer look, turned out the clear coat was peeling. I also noticed the drivers side roof rail paint was coming off. (See pics).

I brought it to the dealer and Ford replaced the parts under warranty. Needless to say, if it wasn’t under warranty, the job would serious $$$.

If you don’t wash your own car, you may never notice stuff like this…Hope it helps!

Yikes. Just cracked 30k miles on our 2018 and no signs yet but thanks for the heads up!

Just curious, do you use any degreaser or a rotary tool to apply wax?

Hi, nope…no degreaser’s or rotory/DA/orbital buffers/polishers. All washing and waxing has been done by hand. Spray wax in between using Meguiars Fast Finish every 3-6 months since the day we got it. The paint is in brand new condition/look…it’s just those 2 areas that came up. You wouldn’t know the headlight unless you really inspected it closely.

Thanks for posting. I have the headlight clear coat issue as well. I’ll probably have the dealer address it before my 3/36000 warranty is over.

Glad you caught it, most people don’t wash they’re own car so they wouldn’t notice it till it was too late.

It wasn’t an issue with the dealer, they took pictures and sent it into Ford, it was OKd no problem covered under warranty.

It’s a huge job to replace the headlights on these, not like my old 1981 F100 where you take out 4 screws and you can change a light, they have to take the whole front end of the car off. With parts and labor, it’d be a couple grand I’m sure.
