2022MY ESCAPE, EXPLORER & EXPEDITION
Product Offering Change: Hands-Free Power Liftgate Feature Delete Option

ACTION REQUESTED
  • Due to the global semiconductor shortage, customers taking delivery of some Escape, Explorer and Expedition vehicles including Hands-Free Power Liftgate must be informed that these vehicles are not equipped with the Hands-Free Power Liftgate, which provides the capability to open and close the power liftgate using a foot-activated sensor as the feature is not available. Note: The Power Liftgate remains equipped on these vehicles.
  • Vehicles that have had the Hands-Free Liftgate feature removed from vehicles will receive a $55 MSRP credit on the window label and vehicle invoice.
  • Future vehicle orders may have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate Feature Delete option added to avoid any delays in scheduling. The option code for this feature delete is:
    • 18D – Escape
    • 96X – Explorer
    • 98D – Expedition
  • Vehicles built with the Hands-Free Power Liftgate Feature Delete option will not be retrofitted to add the Hands-Free capability in the future.
SUMMARY
While the automotive industry continues to be confronted by supply chain shortages, Ford is working diligently to ensure our vehicles are delivered to dealers and customers as quickly as possible. These shortages impact a wide variety of components used to manufacture our products. Therefore, Ford will be making the following product offering changes to Escape, Explorer and Expedition vehicles in an effort to help customers receive their vehicles sooner. Your understanding & continued support are appreciated.
  • Hands-Free Power Liftgate feature is being deleted from applicable Escape, Explorer and Expedition vehicles. The Power Liftgate remains equipped on these vehicles.
  • A $55 MSRP credit will be applied to any vehicles that have had this feature removed.
  • A Hands-Free Power Liftgate Feature Delete option may be added to future orders.
  • There are no retrofit plans for vehicles built without the Hands-Free feature.
Dealer stock orders require no special handling or customer acknowledgement forms. Customers taking delivery of retail orders must sign the attached Acknowledgement Form. A copy of the signed Acknowledgment Form must be included in the deal jacket.

CUSTOMER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM
A signed Customer Acknowledgement Form is required documentation for customers taking delivery of an impacted retail ordered vehicle.

I iwsh there was a way to turn off the power liftgate feature. I don't know how many times I got my head knocked when hooking up my camper.

We have a growing family of 3 right now and its absolute to have climate control in the rear along with a bench and RES (which I knew from the start we weren't gonna get). So now Im on the hunt for Limited Max because thats what the platinum is now.
I feel for you, but FWIW, I think you'll have rear climate control, you just won't have the rear CONTROLS for rear climate control in the rear. You'll still be able to control the AC from the front, and I think this is one of the features that will be reinstalled when available. Please confirm with your dealer.

the foot activation feature or the lift gate entirely? there are threads on here how to pull the sensor, so you don't activate the liftgate when walking behind or hooking a trailer.

Hurts, but not surprised, all reports have stated "worse before it gets better". The 23's order banks will likely require a large volume of these delete selections just to get scheduled, anyone with a 22 that has not yet been scheduled, you're looking at a 50/50 chance, anyone one already built, you probably have them already, this is typically a move forward notice.

Question. I am getting the 22 limited with heavy duty tow package. I bought a camper from general rv. They have me down as needing a brake controller installed. Does the expedition come with brake controller since I have heavy duty tow or is that really something I need to pay for at General RV?

I really do not care about the hands-free power liftgate to be honest, but really soon it seems they will start to delivery cars without doors because of chips.

I asked my dealer to change my order to a 23 (officially will be done on June15) once I am not wiling to get a Platinum equipped as a Limited. I want a Platinum loaded as should be and if takes more months to build it I am ok to wait since I am not in a rush to get a new car and the price is protected.

If you do not need to buy a car now, do not do it. In the best case you will pay MRSP for a car with less equipment.

This situation will not last forever, there is a economical downturn coming (it is a reality for most of Europe) which together with ramp up of new chip manufacturers will change this reality in 1 year.

If you really need to buy a car right now because you got a newborn or whatever a good option is try the used car market. Prices are already started to cool down sharply on last couple months.

After all this crisis, It is hard to believe what will be to buy a car in one year from now. My best guess is make to order will be the new reality, nevertheless prices and equipment will face a pressure to go down.

I agree. If you want all the bells and whistles, then wait this out. Problem is that it could be years before they catch up.

Unfortunately, I NEEDED a new Expedition since mine was totaled and I tow a camper. I was very fortunate to find one on a dealer lot at MSRP equipped almost exactly as my 2019 Limited Stealth was. I actually gained the HO engine, which was a very nice upgrade. I did lose my 0% interest loan, which is probably the biggest hit I took.

Mine was built over the weekend as well. (Limited max, 302A, hd tow, 4wd, cargo)
11/25 : Ordered
02/15 : "In Production"
03/15 : Fake-built (chip hold)
06/05 : Real-built

Anyone who actually got delivery of a vehicle (or close to getting it), can you let me know how long is the time wait from "Built" to "In hand" ? thanks
