Since I might be the first person to do this I figured that I would post a picture for reference so that anyone else that thinks about it in the future can see an example.

This is the Alpine Halo iLX-F511 head unit. I used a mounting bracket from Best Buy that has the single din space on top and pocket at the bottom and I adjusted the screen so it sits as low as possible. I do still have room that I can reach behind the top of the screen and hit the buttons if I need to. There is a possibility that I would design and 3D print a mount for the buttons to go in the empty pocket and raise the screen above them but right now it's really not an issue for me. I think my next step will be to get the factor backup camera down to the large screen.

I just picked this up at the end of April 2022 mainly to use as a tow vehicle so I wanted the large screen and wireless Carplay to use for those trips.

That’s exactly what I’m having installed in my 2015 EL Limited. With that single din in the dash, would there be enough room if I were to try and dash mount a CB or other type of radio in the now empty space below if i were to raise the screen up to a higher position? Enough room to see the front of that CB radio to easily use it? It’s exactly what I’m thinking of doing on the 20th of this month. Thanks for your time and it looks stellar!

How are you liking the Alpine so far? A buddy of mine picked up a Transit and this is on the list among a couple others. He's converting to a mobile office and wants as much connectivity/ease of use as possible.

Sorry about the late reply. For some reason I didn't get a notification that I had comments on this.

I'm using the iDatalink Maestro RR in conjunction with the RF01 Radio Replacement T-Harness. Bother of these work together to retain steering wheel control and you also keep your factory amp for the subwoofer and speakers. At least I believe that this Expedition has an amp for all the speakers.

If you have any other questions i'll try and pay more attention to this going forward.

I can't tell you exactly if if you can do the CB with this head unit but what I can tell you is that RadioShack which you probably can't find anymore and Cobra make a single din CB unit with front facing speaker which will fit above or below a single din radio in a double din space. I just found the model number of Cobra 18 WX ST II.

I did this in a first gen Ford Escape and then transferred it to a 3rd gen Explorer until I realized that either the radio or the CB unit was not shielded very well and when you transmitted with them that close together the CB would bleed into the radio. It took that long for me to figure out because I usually just listened but I eventually moved the CB away from the head unit and no bleed through. After that I switched to the Cobra 75 WX ST which has everything in the "mic" as that is what my grandfather uses in his class A motorhome and he was happy with it.

I still have yet to figure out what i'm going to do for a CB in this Expedition but my first goal is to find a hood mount for the antenna that works.

Please, when you get things installed share pictures.

Let me preface this with saying that I have been an Alpine "fanboy" for a long time so I might be a little biased. Though so far I am loving it. I was using a Sony Carplay head unit in my Explorer for about 2 years that was plug-in Carplay and the Alpine not only works better but the wireless is just great. I don't listen to music and am generally listening to political talk radio or audio books and it's awesome when i'm running errands and am in and out so much that my phone just connects without having to plug it in. So for me, the wireless is the real game changer.

Thanks so much for your time. Really appreciating getting in touch with fellow Expediton owners about all of this!

I did this with a Sony radio and am wondering is there space between your radio and the dash? If so, how did you fill that space? I installed mine and there's probably 2 inches of space between the radio and dash and I haven't found a way to fill that. I tried some different plastic sheets from home depot and Lowe's that are supposed to be flexible but they didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated to if anyone has an idea.

I'm not sure what you mean by space between the radio and dash. This a a floating screen so yes there is a space between the screen and the dash. If you are asking if there is a space between the chassis of the radio and the dash, the answer is no, because I used the proper install kit so it fits in perfectly and frames the chassis correctly.
