Is it possible to have the HD tow package and not be able to pull 9k? I’m just confused because the VIN decoder shows my GCWR as 12k which only can tow 6600 lbs according to the Ford Towing Guide. Says I need a GCWR of 15k to get 9k towing capacity.
I would quicker trust the hardware I can see on the vehicle and the tow guide. None of the alphanumeric characters in the VIN guide corresponds to that feature. That means the only way to know would be a database on Fords end of every vehicle produced and the configuration. All Limited and above trims for 2015 through 2017 came standard with HD Tow. This is true for years before 2015 as well, but I didn't check every single brochure to know how far back this configuration goes.
No. If you have an HD tow package you can pull 9200lbs. But I wouldn't , but that's a different subject. Payload will be the enemy, not the tow rating.
