Hey guys, I’m sure many of you have struggled with this when installing a trans cooler on a model that doesn’t have one. I fought this quick connect for about six hours using every tool I could get my hands on, even making plastic shims out of a milk jug. I could move the little snap ring but couldn’t get the line out of the connector….. so I deleted it completely. One trip to Napa for hose clamps, two feet of 1/2 inch transmission hose and one brass coupling later, I was able to install everything in about twenty minutes. Try my best to keep things as OEM as possible but sometimes the Ford gods are just not on your side. No leaks so far and everything is tight and without any binds. Hope this helps someone struggling with these things.

Those clamps got the best of me too on my 08. Spent hours. Couldn't do it. I have a a dozen different tools and none of them worked. There's some odd acknowledgement knowing I'm not the only one...

You really start doubting your mechanical abilities after a few hours of straining with it. Then you throw a wrench through your windshield….

For sure. Tried the scissor 1/2 and 3/8 transmission line tool. Then used the lisle 1/2 inch plastic one too. You could see the little snap ring open but I don’t know if there is an o ring that the end of the tubing seats down on that could have gotten corroded or stuck to it and wouldn’t let it free.

...and I thought it was only me and my minimal 40 years of mechanical work.

Anyone want to buy the ford trans cooler and hoses that I won't be using?

So glad I read this before I do it tomorrow, would've been mad as hell sitting there because of a quick connect being stupid.
