Are authorized Ford dealers required to maintain a Garage Keepers Liability insurance policy in order to protect customer vehicles in their possession/on their lot?

My sister had a convoluted transmission issue on a 2018 Expedition Platinum which we managed to wrestle to the mat with the help of a Ford Corp. senior customer service rep from Houston...

...then the hail storm hit and inflicted serious damage to every car on the lot.

On initial call dealer said they'd be handling it through their insurance...

...and 4-days later did an about-face and said their insurer said we need to file through our own insurer.

I have caught the dealer in question in many lies and to the credit of Ford Corporate they have made the dealer perform so far...

...any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Not sure who your insurance is, but I would call my agent and ask. No one is better about getting money from the responsible parties like insurance companies. In the meantime they might have your truck fixed and covered, while they chase down the dealer’s insurance

Yes!! Call your insurance and make a claim. They should absolutely waive any deductible. They will then go after the dealers insurance for reimbursement if they feel they are entitled to it.

Dealer caved and agreed to pay for everything.

They b*tched, whined and moaned at length until we threatened to take it all public and 18-hours later came back and agreed to have their insurer cover everything — LMAO .

I’m curious.

Did the Ford dealer tell your sister they would keep the vehicle inside a building while there for repairs?

BE CAREFUL. I guarantee they will try to do the cheapest fix known to man..... Find out WHAT they are doing BEFORE they touch it! Get a second opinion before you let them do it.....

Very true^^^. I had paint damage on my new Expy from transport. I just learned to live with it because of the shady paint shop they were going to take it to.

+1. It's like when someone hits you and says "I know a guy ..." No, not happening.

Good feedback thanks.

To their credit straight-away they said take it to the shop of our choice and agreed to get us working directly with their insurer.

It was all a huge PITA but ultimately we got to what looks like a fair resolution.
