My turn now for Cam phaser replacement on my 2019, need your feedback?

So I have almost 25k miles on it, got it new - they did the reprogramming about 2 months and it started to rattle at cold start-up only about two weeks ago.

But I did an experiment and used 93 octane instead of 87 for the past 500 miles and it doesn't rattle - coincidence?

The dealer said parts can take a few months as I am on the waiting list now, not sure how true it is either and it's a 10-12 hour job and will provide a loaner car.

Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with the other threads on the cam phasers, but does this sound typical?

Change back to 87, see if it returns? If it does, change back to 93, and let us know the results.

Yeah, like @Bmac1955 said, i dont think changing octane would stop the cam phaser rattle for long. I just got the cam phasers replaced on my truck and so far its been great. Just stay on that list and get them replaced under their warranty.

That's my plan to finish or nearly finish the 93 and switch over to 87 again and see what happens, i know it's weird and i can't explain it either.

I only put 91 in mine, 93 is not available in CO, and it still developed the rattle.

Mine developed the rattle around 37,000. I had the reprogramming done twice and then the complete replacement. It took a month to get it repaired due to the labor backlog at the dealership. Parts weren’t an issue in April when I took mine in.

My check engine light was on before I got home. It was running rough and ran like it was choking out at low speeds. I guess they don’t test drive repaired vehicles? I took it back and they had it another three weeks. They said they had to contact Ford Engineers as they couldn’t figure out the issue. My $10 code reader from Amazon pointed to the VCT Solenoid. After three weeks, they told me it was a bad VCT solenoid and I got it back.

Luckily I had a loaner on both occasions but I was without my car for almost two months. Your mileage may vary

I had the phaser repair at 63k in February on my 2019. I am now at 72K with no issues. it took the dealer 3 days to complete.

Mine needed it with around 45k miles. Took a few weeks to get the parts in. I dropped it off Tuesday am and it was done Friday afternoon under warranty. We'll see how the new design holds up.

Jan 22 - 35k miles my 2019 went into limp mode but reset after a restart. so I dropped off just to get it reviewed. They said it skipped timing- Reprogrammed, Timing chains and cam phasers replaced all in same visit. They reprogrammed and kept it over night and could still hear it on cold startup. Took 3 days total. Got it back and a week later coincidentally got a CEL for a catalytic converter inefficiency. Able to keep driving but waited 2 months for parts. Both cats were replaced. Running fine, another coincidence that my accelerator pedal failed which may been the original reason for limp mode I suspect. Everything has been fine, fingers crossed.
