A tangent from the original question because it has been properly answered...

The fact that you CAN lock your Expi with the keys in it is an amazing feature. I am amazed that it seems to be a Ford only feature. Patented?

We bike, ski, hike etc with friends and I love that I can leave the keys in the vehicle, push the bottom two buttons as mentioned above and walk away. My wife or any other friend with our code can retrieve the vehicle if needed. Everyone else we play with has to hide a key or carry a key. There is routinely times where the needed key gets left in another shuttle vehicle or people end up waiting for the person with the key to arrive before they can access or retrieve that vehicle. Props to Ford for this feature.
I do think Ford has a patent on this feature.

What vehicles auto lock themselves? I have never seen that before? Seems like a cool feature! My brother has his house set to autolock the front door, its a huge pain in the ****. I walk out to grab a tool out of my jeep and by the time I walk back up the freaking door is locked on me.
I know this thread is a year old now, but I'm a brand new Expedition owner as of this weekend and I too was looking for this feature within my settings, unfortunately, to discover it's not possible. My wife's 2018 Honda CR-V has this feature. If you have the key on you the doors will lock when you get more than a couple of feet from the car. It like anything, it's super convenient at times and frustrating at others.

Just my opinion but we are training ourselves to be less attentive when we have everything operate on its own.
Just like making sure I have my keys and wallet when I leave I always press the lock on the fob this way I know I got the key and closed all the doors, etc. You get used to it where its second nature.

IMO Tesla autopilot is for lazy people who are diminishing their cognitive ability and awareness. I support safety features to prevent accidents and also maybe cruise control to give your feet a break. But robots are already replacing humans, lets at least keep our awareness functions sharp.

My wife's 2017 Honda CR-V has that feature. Walk 8 ft. from the car and it locks. You still need to put your hand in the handle to unlock, but walking away with your hands full and it locks itself is really nice. I thought all newer cars had that feature, especially an 80K+ SUV, but nope. Her $30K CR-V does and mine doesn't.

We are making the humans in Wall-E a reality.
