Hello all, I have registered because a friend of mine told me this is the best place for 1st Gen Expy troubleshooting/advice on the internet! Having said that, thanks in advance for any replies, my issue is this. My power locks on my 97 XLT have stopped working when pressing the fob keys or attempting to use the switches on front doors. When you use fob, the running board lights and interior light come on but locks do not operate. If you press to lock on fob, the running board and interior lights go off, but no action on door locks. So far I have checked the fuse under dash (ok), replace all 3 of the relays in dash, replaced both driver and passenger side door lock switches and checked the wiring in the door jambs for any breaks or crimps but nothing. There is no noise what so ever to be heard when pressing the door lock switches to lock or unlock. I was told there is a box under and to the left of the steering wheel that is for anti theft but that would not explain why the locks do not work even with doors open? I'm at a loss, it's a nuisance because this has rendered the rear handle for the tailgate/glass inoperable.

Check the wiring in the passenger side rocker panel. There's a cheap connector down there where the door lock power wire splits in two and it corrodes out over time, and especially if water has gotten in there.

Thanks for reply, I shall take a look. Is it behind the plastic panel that has fuel shut off written on it?

Did you mean this? Which one would I be looking for? The ground bolt looks good, this was under the passenger side rocker plastic cover.
(sorry for double post, don't know what happened)

Well, that's the kick panel. The wiring corrosion problem happens a little further back under the rocker panel, which is at the bottom of your picture.

Now I know why the guys who fixed up the '99 I purchased a few weeks ago were so proud that all the power doors & windows worked when I went to check it out for the first time, as my neighbor who I purchased it from had left it at the shop and didn't want it anymore.

Good information because I saw where they cleaned a lot of rust up on both the driver/passenger side front doors but there was some still kicking around... I noticed exactly where the water would drop or drips and put some weather pad/strip down so it just bounces off and away... but I still need to keep my eyes open.

I've cleaned most of the rust away but if I have any issues this certainly helps, I did have to point out to the mechanic that the back driver side door's button doesn't work... You can Click Open/Lock and it just doesn't move... I honestly don't care I just need to remember to manually lock it if I open that door.

I took that plastic cover off, can't see anything obvious. Do I need to unwrap wires? Maybe go further back?
