I've always been curious, were you not at the dealer, sitting with the general sales manager (you would need a print out of your Ford PLAN pin) when they logged in to the "PLAN" quoting site on Fords server? Did you not get a printout of that quote, and subsequent order? When it comes to plan orders (A,Z,X), the dealer is just a vessel that inputs what you want, takes a deposit, and then awaits the delivery, where they can then offer you the "upsale" speech with the F&I manager. The printout has, in this case, all three plan prices at the bottom. This, is what you are paying with the plan you are entitled to. Seems to me you did not do any of what I posted at the start, but perhaps made a call, or sent an email, and did not sit down face to face. For me, I tried with the first dealer, closer to home, and someone who has serviced my Fords in the past, the sales force declined to take the X-Plan order, even though it is an easy 8% to them, and does not affect their number of order slots that they can place. 2nd dealership, I was in and out from the time I walked in, to the time the order was placed in the system, and a deposit taken in the back office, in under an hour. I did call the next day to modify with the addition of the 50T "Special Edition" package, which added a few more items for SWMBO, but even that, over the phone, took all of 5 minutes to accomplish.

Mine delivered 2 days shy of 5 months (ordered less than a week earlier than you) from my initial order, I now rolled over 600 miles this AM, and I am quite pleased.

I agree with what you are saying as how it "should" work, but based on my experience with the dealer I used to call "my dealer" and also reading a few stories on these forums, there is a lot of manipulation going on with the X plan due to the shortage of vehicles these days. Things like "we'll honor X-plan, however you must also purchase... or, we just order the vehicle with what you want and honor the X-plan when it arrives, or we can't order X-plan anymore as it's been discontinued by Ford" are absolute BS.

I knew how it should work when I arrived at the dealer as I've used X-plan a couple of times over the years and it is same as you describe above. I knew within 5 minutes of talking to a sales guy, that they were up to no good and it took a few calls and visits to get them to provide the x-plan order print out and even then they pushed back until I said I'd talked to Ford corporate.

After all that, trying to modify the order to drop the constrained items was another horrible experience. I'd purchased 3 vehicles from that dealer in 9 years, but after all that hassle, I wont set foot in there again. It all worked out in the end as I got a better Expy Limited a few miles down the road and my former dealer can sell my x-plan order to somebody who will pay above sticker and buy additional add-ons.

I've never known about A, Z, X plan pricing interesting.

That explains a little bit about what I see in the XHR responses when looking at the Ford inventory search.

There's more than this but here's a sample of the data for a 303A MAX

Code:

You don't need to look at the code, if you are logged in to the internal "PLAN" page, all three plan prices are shown at the bottom of the page. Print it out, along withe your "PLAN" pin page, and stop in to your local Ford dealer to speak with the general sales manager (a regular sales rep cannot input your order, nor quote you any "PLAN").

When placing the order in the system, you will get price protection, any incentives offered at that time should be locked in, and any future incentives available at time of delivery should be applied.

There are specific "hoops" that both you as the buyer, and the selling dealer will need to be aware of, 99.99% of it is paperwork related to keep the dealer from taking advantage, or changing the deal as has been previously mentioned in previous posts on this thread. The .1% that pertains to the buyers is a simple one, you must have your PLAN pin paperwork when order, and you must keep the vehicle in question a minimum of 6 months. All other falls on the dealer, as they have to account to Ford Corp when they take, and make a "PLAN" sale.

Interesting. I was not at the dealer and did everything by phone. This is my first X plan experience and it did not come with instructions to go sit down with the general sales manager. I wish I had more information at the time, but it is good to know for the future.

As for the first local dealer I called, it is a long time salesman whose daughter grew up with my wife and whose families have known each other for many years. I never even gave him my PIN. I just called, told him we had a PIN, and asked if he could price out a custom order for us.

My understanding is that X Plan is “Dealer Invoice - (0.4% * Dealer Invoice) + Administration Fee of $275." This should be a fairly easy calculation and the same for all dealers, but it is not in my experience.

Granger Ford in Iowa was the only dealer that actually showed me invoice. They also offered the best price, but they are over 900 miles from us and the difference ended up not being enough to be worth going that far to get it. However, using that invoice price, I should know what the vehicle will cost with the X plan. Three dealers were within $100 on X plan price (before doc fees and junk added). One other was about $300 higher than the lowest. The first dealer mentioned above, however, was a good bit more (I'd have to go look back and see exactly how much), and then he had added doc fees and such that caused the large difference in price out the door.

The dealer that we ultimately ordered from did provide a printed Order Summary by email in response to my call as well as a a Purchase Agreement showing the out the door price. I initially dealt with a sales person, but finalized the deal with the General Sales Manager by email. Although they had a doc fee initially, they ended up waiving it to make sure I was happy. After doing so, they ended up $442.69 more than Granger and are only 125 miles from us instead of instead of 937. This is what ultimately got them the business. I actually didn't put a deposit down and haven't given them my PIN yet, either. I was told to just have the number available at time of purchase.

I'll feel most comfortably about all of the above once the vehicle arrives, we are satisfied with it, and we sign on the dotted line based upon our agreement. It should be at or below what we agreed to, if incentives are better at the time of purchase, although I doubt that will be the case. Still, will be better once the deal is done.

That's great to hear that you are pleased with yours. We are excited and hope there are no shipping delays and the estimate is right!

I was told I'd get the better of either the incentives at the time or order OR the incentives at the time of purchase/delivery, but not both. My Purchase Agreement shows the incentives at time of order.

Your last paragraph makes me nervous. We have never had any Plan pin paperwork. I was given an X plan pin verbally. Oh boy.

"X" Plan is 2% over dealer true cost (remember hoop jumping paperwork from Ford) not invoice. Ford will then kick back 6% to the dealer for taking the "X" plan order or sale (if item on lot). At a minimum, the dealer will make 8% on the sale, plus whatever they can try to up-sell at close of the deal and delivery of the vehicle.

All paperwork for a "plan" order lists "A", "X", "Z" plan pricing on the bottom. A regular sales rep does not have access to "plan" pricing, no matter what they tell you over the phone, or via email. I have yet to see a dealer sell a 2022 Expedition below plan pricing, as that would be below 2% over their true cost, meaning they would be making less than 2% on the deal.

Bill

PS: I actually received a pleasant surprise in the mail last week in the form of a roughly 2K check from the dealer, who had better cost pricing with Ford, associated with my "plan" order, and refunded me to stay within "plan" rules, regulations, and guidelines. Your expereience may vary, but mine shows a dealer who sticks to it, knowing they will received countless referrals out of my positive experience with them. Some will also be "plan" buyers, many more will not be.

My SPP has just landed at the local rail yard. I was just told by my sales guy that not only was my price locked in when I ordered in March, but also my interest rate. If that’s true, that would be absolutely amazing.

I was told that my interest rate was locked in at order in Dec but the rates really weren't that great.

I also had a good experience with X-plan (via Mustang Club) and even got a supposed X-plan related discount on my cermaic coating and PPF applications. No pressure or funny business at all at purchase time nearly 7 months post-order.

Highly recommend Hudson Ford (Hudson, WI) if you're in the east side of Mpls/St Paul MN metro area.
They had it ready for me less than 2 hours after if showed up on the lot from the rail yard and will be detailing upon return from our road trip.

Best of luck to all still waiting - it is a wonderful upgrade from the 2015-2017 model range. Although that remains a great vehicle, they've made some major refinements.

A few Plat pearls:
Seats are amazing
The 15" touchscreen is easy to get used to
LED lighting at least as good but seems better than my '15 non-LED projectors
Wish I could independently control CCD settings like in my '15 but getting over it.

Thanks again to all the expertise and support here on this particular thread over the past year.
