Hi,

I recently took delivery of my 2022 Expedition Max Stealth Performance Package. I have a Google Pixel 6 Pro and noticed that the phone is not charging no matter what I do. In the wireless charger it charges extremely slow to the point that it discharges quicker than charging. I have plugged into the USB C port to charge and that was also extremely slow to charge. Using the cigarette adapter and a cord, same result.

Anyone experience anything similar? Is the Android Auto pulling so much battery power that it's draining it so much?

Appreciate any advice anyone has to offer.

Thanks,

Donny

I own a 2022. I don't own a Pixel yet (maybe a 6a in the future) but my Moto G7 has no issues fast charging in the USB C port up front. The phone recognizes it as a "Turbo Power" aka Moto slang for "Quick Charge" so it is fast charging at likely 15 watts which is my phone limit. When I'm running Android Auto the charger is easily putting more juice in the battery then I'm using running it. When I unplug it is usually full. I can't speak to the wireless charger as my phone doesn't support that.

I've heard those Tensor powered Pixels are pretty powerful. Perhaps the phone is doing additional tasks in the background? Have you tried a different phone to see if it charges faster?

I've had a Pixel 6 for over a year now without any issues. With that said, my entire USB infrastructure in the car was essentially replaced about 8 months ago. But having said that, even before that it was fine. But that also doesn't matter if you tried using a cable and a cig lighter adapter. You didn't mention this but I'm sure you have tried, have you tried different cables?

I will say, my phone heats up pretty bad if I'm running something like a video on the phone, while it's on the wireless charger or plugged in using the bluetooth or AAuto. There really shouldn't be a reason the phone is consuming so much power that it's charging slow. When this seems to be happening, pop into your battery settings in the phone settings, click on "Battery Usage" and try to figure out which app is using the juice. Be sure to look in "System Usage for past 24 hr" as well. Sometimes things will show up in there.

Finally, if you still haven't found it, enable debug options (see here: https://infos-geek.com/en/comment-activer-le-debogage-usb-sur-google-pixel-6/). Once debugging is enabled, go to settings, developer options, and running services. This gives you a more real-time view of what's consuming resources as well. There are plenty of other options in developer options as well that can help.

I have a 22 Limited and a p6p and it has more charge than when I get in the car even using Android auto. Haven't even tried using a cord.

I have a Pixel 6 and 22 MY. I was surprised when the phone died on my last road trip. I was using Android auto for navigation and streaming music. Since then I've been watching the phone and I barely charges if android auto is connected. Next road I'll try it without the phone case to see if it does any better.

Just for comparisons, I have a S22 Ultra that I have had no issues with in the 22 Max SPP. On a recent trip I even noticed that the phone stopped charging because it had reached 100%.

I have an S22, and its not charging fast enough to keep up with the discharge. There's something wrong. I've tried it without a case. It shows its charging on the screen. It's just not working right.

Been using my P6Pro in my new to me Expedition this week and also noticing it charges slowly too while using android auto and plugged in, but it is charging. It does get warm down in that little cubby.

Have you tried swapping out the cable? Also, Android Auto can be a bit of a battery hog, but it shouldn't be that extreme. Maybe check for any runaway apps in the background? On a side note, I was scrolling through some tech forums and stumbled upon this interesting topic about Pixel charging. Some users recommended trying a different charger or checking for dust in the charging port. Oh, and by the way, have you considered exploring the possibility of upgrading to a newer device? Decided to sell your iPad Pro for a good deal and it helped fund you latest tech obsession. This way you can definitely solve all your problems.
