This one is not difficult to do, you could even add a rubber grommet to close the hole off. This gives me an idea to purchase another hitch cover and modify for my trailer hookup. When in use, I'd use this one, when not in use, I'd install the original.

Put a wire extension on and have the plug in facing the rear thru the cover. I still think the chains will pull the cover off from the bottom.
