Anyone remove their running boards. I have a 22 Timberline and they are useless to me and they are loud in the rain going through puddles.
Wanted to know what it looks like without them.

About 6 years ago, I had my husband remove the running boards from my 03 Expy EB that I had from new. I live 2 miles off of the pavement, down a dirt county road which becomes a mud road when it rains. After the boards were removed, the mud that would previously collect under bottom of the running boards was now getting into the door frame. I would have to rinse the lower part of the inside of the actual door because the mud would get under the gasket. The mud would also get on the inner door sill, which I would have to rinse out. No mud would get into the cabin per se, but you could definitely see the mud when you opened the door. You could also see a bit of the vehicle frame when you stood back a distance from the vehicle. I now have a 22 Expy TX Edition, and I will never again have the boards removed. I'm not a big fan of them, but I don't want the hassle that I went through before. Just my 2 cents.

That is something I need to consider. Maybe there are better left on and used as a big mud flap.
Thanks for the input!

The weathertech mud flaps reduced the puddle noise significantly on mine. I have an 19 XLT with fixed running boards.

I saw a bare bones expedition used as special service vehicle. It had no running boards and you can see the frame pretty clearly when you are standing 10 ft away. It looked pretty ugly IMHO.

I would love to go with the aftermarket retractable ones or may be some real rock slider.
