I had a 2019 Expedition Stealth and now have a 2022 Timberline.

I often drive at night, in the back country of Delaware chicken farm land. I personally feel the newer headlights throw a better coverage area than the older ones. Even with the foglights off, I have better road edge coverage. I feel the distance, width, and height, especially while in a tree canopy stretch of road, is excellent.

I don't feel the old ones were bad, I just feel the height up and down lacked. I almost feel there was a dark patch on the road unless the fog lights were on. Not so with the 2022 headlights.

Also, I like the way the high beams fade on and off versus a hard switch on and off. Not relevant to the question, but thought I would add that neat feature that my old one did not have.

The headlights are fantastic on the 22’s. I can see those TX hill country deer in the bar ditch about 300 yds ahead of me, giving me ample time to react if they decide to run out in front of me. Just waiting on Ranch Hand to figure out if the 18-21 grille guard works on the the new front ends or not.

Must have not had LED lights because the LED's on my 20' Platinum are very bright.

Very happy with my 2022 Timberline headlights - Last February I rented a 2020 Expedition last winter and I couldn’t even tell if the headlights were on! Vastly improved for 2022.

The 18-21 Ranch Hand grill guard does not fit the 2022 Timberline without some modification, the lower bumper facia is slightly different shape and so some metal needs to be cut off the grill guard. Not sure how the fitment would be for the other trim levels. I modified and mounted my grill guard from my 2019 Platinum onto my 2022 Timberline.

If you don’t mind, could you post some pics of your grille guard install (on a separate thread would be fine) so we can see how much needs to be trimmed, and if we would need to on non-timberline 22’s

I'm a light nerd. I've upgraded lighting in every vehicle I've owned back to the early 90s. HIDs, custom housings, the works. My '22 Expedition Limited doesn't need an upgrade. They're solid.

Max, yes if you can actively compare the output on your Expy to your experience of your CX9 the next time you drive, that would be excellent. Indeed, if as you say you have not felt much of a loss of lighting with the Expy, then that's reassuring (along with everyone else's positive feedback).

To everyone who has taken the time to provide feedback, thank you.

And actually, this online community is one of the top reasons why the Expy is at the top of my list currently. Its large, active and helpful. I guess it helps when there's so many Expys and F150s sold, but all the same the shared knowledge base is priceless.
I was out driving in the country after a sports game with the kids yesterday and remembered your request for a direct comparison to the Mazda's lighting. The extended drive on minor roads with no urban or suburban lighting, and also through farmland. Compared to the CX9, it is less sharp on the road, illuminating more of the sides. The Mazda has outstanding lighting, particularly with it's well focused high beam. That said, the Expedition lighting is still much better than just adequate - and I'm not saying that just because we own one

I agree - it's plenty bright but not as crisp. Maybe that's the reflector vs projector? Better lighting than my '15 projector but just less of that crisp cutoff that I was used to. High beams are definitely brighter/broader lighting
