My car has had intermittent loud start up but also sometimes has a long time turning over. The dealership can’t recreate it. It happens at home in my garage when it’s been sitting. Would the cam phaser issue cause the long start up as well. It also developed a vinegar type smell when the car starts up. Again the dealer didn’t help with this either. They changed the cabin filter but that didn’t help.

They told me I’m probably just hearing the normal air handler noise. But it just started happening in the last 4 months or so. It’s a 2019 platinum expedition with 36000 miles.

I don’t think the phasers would do a long crank but a vinegar smell sounds like bad or poor fuel which will cause that.

The noisy startup is probably cam phasers that failed. You need to take a video and show it to your dealer. They will keep it at the dealer overnight and replicate the issue.

I assume the vinegar smell is coming from the A/C vents. To get rid of it, first you need to get rid of your air freshener. Then drive with windows open, fan on high, and A/C off for one or two hours. To prevent the smell from coming back make sure to turn your A/C off while fan is running few minutes before reaching your destination.
