We were towing our travel trailer in the USA (from Canada) and suddenly lost all throttle in South Dakota. 3.5L ecoboost, 135,000 miles on it. We ended up with three codes - P0627, P0087, and P00C6. We had it towed to a nearby dealership that said the FPDM and the high pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. $1200 later, we were out the door and it seemed to be running fine. After putting about 150 miles on it, though, the same problem arose and we had to leave it on the side of the road again. It has been towed back to the same dealership so they can warranty their previous work, and it again has P0627 and P0087. Other than a wiring issue, what else should we be looking for? The wiring harness to the FPDM is exposed on the outside of the frame rail, but doesn't look to have any damage.

This really destroyed our family vacation and we don't know when we'll be able to get home and back to work. We have about 12 hours of towing to do after the dealer releases it next week (assuming they do something), and I'm already paranoid that the problem again won't be fixed and we'll be left on the side of the road for a third time. Has anyone else faced this fueling issue?

It's currently with the dealer again, but they can't find anything wrong. I'm not sure how I can feel comfortable towing our trailer back home for 12 hours not knowing if it's going to kick out at any given moment.

Sorry to hear about your issue. I've had two major breakdowns while traveling, so I know how stressful it can be. Last time I broke down 4 hours into a 16 hour drive to Denver. Had to rent a car, drop my wife and daughter off in Denver, then drive back to Dallas metro to wait three days for my car to get fixed. This last trip my Ecoboost threw two codes and limited boost to 5 psi, so I had to use lower gears to get the camper home. That was 8+ hours of revving in 2nd any time I had to get up to speed. Good luck with your repair. Hopefully the dealer can get it fixed.

Well, we made it home. They couldn't find anything wrong in the end, but I coordinated with a friend of mine who owns an auto repair shop in Saskatchewan and further pulled in his head technician. They don't think the dealer should have replaced the high pressure fuel pump, and that they would be looking to the in-tank fuel pump. I had the dealer replace that one and we ended up towing for 13 hours without any issues, other than some misfires due to old plugs that got a refresh in a parking lot. Now I have to battle with the dealer about the high pressure pump...

Has the problem reoccurred since fuel pump in tank was replaced, and how many miles have you driven?

I have experienced similar issue twice. I was by Curlew Lake, Washington. Not towing at the time. No throttle response, but kept running. Rough idle. Turned off and restarted. Ran normal. Took to local shop (no ford dealer close). They spent 30 minuets but could not find any code. Towed trailer home (4.5 hours) with expedition over mountain passes and had no problems.

525 miles after first incident, traveling on relatively flat section of I-5, cruise control set at 61 mph, there was police on right shoulder with lights flashing. I signaled left, pressed on throttle to merge into center lane. No throttle response. Pulled to shoulder. Rough idle. Turned off and restarted engine. Ran fine.

Gas mileage may have decreased since issue started. But hard to say if it is something going on with the engine or if it was simply more mountain driving towing trailer than in previous driving history. Average gas mileage reported on dash has decreased from 12.5 mp to 12.3 mpg.

I have an appointment scheduled the end of November (earliest appointment available) at local ford dealer to run diagnostic.

This sounds like the throttle body losing its position. It will reset on a restart.

So do you suggest replacing throttle position sensor? I cannot find any codes using Forscan. However, I am not confident I am using Forscan correctly.

I had the same issue again today going 35 mph, 175 miles after previous incident.

Just replace the whole throttle body.

I've had that loss of throttle symptom on two different ecoboost f150s, replacing the throttle body fixed it on both. Wasn't terribly pricey as I recall either.
