I’ve been wondering if the 4WD version had some way to convert it to 2WD temporarily because well the gas prices are kicking my butt so yeah

The front wheels should be freewheeling on the hubs when moving and the front prop shafts, differential, driveshaft and transfer case should not be turning. If that is not the case, figure out what is wrong and correct it.

if none of the above are turning, then not much you can do from a driveline perspective. IMHO it does not make financial sense to acquire all the necessary parts from a 2WD Expy, removing all 4WD components and installing 2WD front suspension components.

Perhaps focus on engine tune and efficiency to improve mileage.

It all turns, all the time. The hubs are bolted to differential axle. No locking device.

Everything on the front spins even if you took out front drive shaft. These 1st gen's have no hub disengage.
What kind of MPG you getting?

From what I know it’s always putting power to the front wheels too, and I don’t want to get rid of the 4WD I just wanted to know if you could get it into 2WD
And I get about 8-9mpg

What do you mean?

I pulled the fuse during the warmer months and reinstalled during snowy freezing months.

Did the same until I could do FRONT driveshaft u-joints and boot replacements. Then again due to Tcase chain slap.

8-9 MPG seems a little low. What kind of driving do you do? When did you last change all the filters? Tires/tire pressure good? All those little details can add up. I do mostly highway driving (55-70MPH) and get 16 MPG. Just my 2-cents. Good Luck!
