I can see a lot of threads about the recall, and wish I had followed this forum earlier this year. But, I couldn't find anything that addressed my specific question.

I have a 2021 Expedition with the towing package, so it should have the heavy-duty (800W?) cooling fan.

We were on a trip when the fix became available, so I took it to a small-town dealer to have the repair done, rather than waiting until I got home. The service advisor told me it was a temporary fix -- pending part availability -- and that it "disables the high-speed cooling fan". But, when I discussed it with a local service advisor, she didn't seem to know anything about it.

This is what the service invoice says:

INSPECTED COVER AND BATTERY JUNCTION BOX. REMOVED BJB, CUT GROUND WIRE AND APPLIED HEAT SHRINK. REASSEMBLED AND CHECKED OPERATION OF HVAC BLOWER AND WIPER/WASHER SYSTEM.

I know that BJB is "battery junction box". But, does the removal mean that something remains to be re-installed?

I read in another thread that the new BJB is available for the HD cooling fan, but not the standard cooling fan. Did the small-town dealer just not have the BJB at that time (it was late July)?

So we are clear. Do you have HD tow? You will know because HD tow has the built in brake controller and the trailer backup assist dial.

For HD tow vehicles the fix is just what you described they did. Remove BJB, cut the offending ground wire and tie back and heat shrink, reassemble BJB. There is nothing more to do.

For non HD tow, the fix is to replace the BJB with a new part. There is another thread on here with much greater detail and the actual repair procedures.

Yes, it does have the HD tow package. It was a requirement, and it took us awhile to find one.

What concerned me was the "small-town" service advisor's claim that it was "temporary", pending availability of a new part, and that something had been disabled. It's looking like he was confusing it with the 700-watt fan.

I'll be taking the truck in for another issue later this week, and I'll show them the invoice for the recall/repair.
