The power liftgate in my truck is possessed. It opens when I walk by the back of the truck, it opens when someone enters of exits either rear seat door, it occasionally opens after I close the drivers door and start to walk away from the truck. Today I was standing behind the vehicle and the liftgate slammed me in the head 5 or 6 times in the course of a few minutes. Later in the day, I was standing about a foot behind the truck talking to someone and it opened into us several times. It really just does what it wants even when no one's feet are near the bumper, much less under the sensor.

I am aware you can disable the entire power liftgate system in the cluster, but I still want it to work via button. I just want to kill the foot feature, is that possible?

Theirs a setting for that in settings and vehicle settings. That's the way it was on our 2022 and Explorers.

My understanding of that setting in the instrument cluster is that it disables the power liftgate system in its entirety, not just the foot part. I still want the remote and button on the dash to work. I guess it is possible they added another menu option for later years?

I disabled mine via ForScan & others have just unplugged the foot sensor under the rear bumper. Search this forum some. @pw1981

The UI will let you deactivate it, depending on the year/interface. On our ‘21, we could only deactivate the power liftgate entirely (turning it into a manual liftgate) which was dumb. But on our ‘22 there’s actually a setting in the UI for us to deactivate only the foot sensor.

This is but one of about half a dozen features we like better on our ‘22 over our ‘21.

No it can just turn off the tailgate. It has always done that with ours. Ford wouldn't change it I wouldn't think. I'd try it. If not just reset it.
