Hi folks 2009 Expedition

I have already taken this to my local mechanic and a place that WAS a Ford dealer until a year ago. They don't really have a solution. I also tried reading a few cruise control threads that popped up, but none sounded particularly like my situation. Specifically:

When I turn it on, it works maybe 30-60 seconds and stops working. If I try it again, it generally will not work at all a second time. So doesnt sound like a fuse.

The (former Ford) dealer thought mayne something about the vacuum in the engine, but I pointed out it was a reman Jasper engine 5 years old, only 40,000 miles

Any thoughts would help. If it puzzled two mechanics, then I really not sure...!

Well just because that remanufactured engine only has 40k miles and is only 5 years old doesn't mean that something about the vacuum is still good.

Does it stay on but disengage so you need to press the resume button, or does it drop out completely so you need to turn it on? There's an indicator light on the dash, looks like a clock. Does that go out or stay lit? If it stays lit you may have a sensitive brake light switch.

I would replace the brake light / cruise control switch with an OEM Motorcraft part (inexpensive).

After installing the switch, use your hand to push the brake pedal forward, then pull it back until it stops. Then release. That will calibrate the new switch.

As 99 says, replace the Brake Light Switch with Motorcraft one, and calibrate it correctly. Don't mess with the new switch before you install and calibrate it as it "takes a set" when used the first time.

Is this an expedition, f150, or general Ford part?

Since the CC available light also goes out, Sounds like maybe the cruise control circuit has a circuit breaker instead of a fuse.

best thing is to take your vehicle to a mechanic specialised in fords, even if you know what's the problem, dealers working quality isn't that good
