I have a 2007 ford expedition xlt, I can't tell if I have the 6000 lb tow or 9000 lb tow package and I can't find anything that that specifies the differences except the 4 and 7 pin connector, I have the 4 pin. I was told by the local ford that they don't know, no surprise there even when I gave them my vin, and because I have a spot to plug in the aftermarket trailer brake controller they think I have the 9000 lb tow. Can anybody tell me what to look for? I already tried the sticker in the driver's door like suggested and it doesn't say.
What gear in the rear end do you have

Pop the hood and look to see if you have one of these. Our 2016 XLT had the 4 pin and didn’t have the auxiliary transmission cooler. I replaced the 4 pin with a 7/4 combination and ran a line to provide power to the trailer. I paid to have the transmission cooler installed because I couldn’t find a step by step guide. About $210 for genuine Ford parts.

we have a 13 EL and pull a BIG bumper pull. We have Hensley Hitch and no wiggle ever. We use Michlin tires at 44psi and of course, our only sway is from those radials doing what they're supposed to do. You need to up your tire pressure to max as your low tires sway side to side and the low pressure also causes excessive tire temperature. You're lucky so far you haven't had a blowout. We pull very year 6 -12,000 miles. Happy trails !

Hey Wedge, I need to know if this 2007 Expy has the factory HD Tow Package - Here's the last 8 digits of the VIN: 7LA01670

So my 2008 has a class 4 hitch, no 7 pin, no cooler. So I have standard tow. But I aftermarketed the pin and the trans cooler From all the research I found, hd tow was the same weight regardless of your diff gearing the only weight differences beyond that will be 4x4 vs 4x2. So for all rights and purposes you could add a trans cooler and wire in a 7 pin if you have a class 4 hitch to give yourself some breathing room.

And if you have a pre existing trans cooler, installing the updated one would be way easier for you than it was for me. But either way isn’t impossible.

Class 4 hitch receiver on a 2007 by itself does not mean you have HD Tow. The round 7-pole electrical outlet, however, only comes as part of the HD Tow package. There are other items, but the outlet is literally unique to that package. All Expeditions get the 4-pole boat trailer connector.
