PPE aftermarket transmission oil pan

Has anyone installed a PPE brand "Heavy-Duty Cast Aluminum" aftermarket transmission oil pan with plug? I'm considering the upgrade and wonder if anyone has already made the upgrade and if you've experienced any installation issues or leaking issues after installation.

I haven't but I'm pretty interested. I can't stand the plastic stuff. Given how sensitive these are to temps, I'm not sure how an engineer thought plastic will transfer heat well. I know, I know, folks like me with the HD tow have the additional cooler, but still, a lot of ambient air blows by the tranny cover while driving, can definitely help cool the fluids.

Trouble is, if I were to buy one, I probably wouldn't do it till I needed the tranny flushed and filled, actually, I need to see what mileage interval I'm supposed to do that. Group buy, J/K, those never go over well these days.

If you are supposed to throw away and replace the $80 plastic pan I'd rather replace it with one of these, I'm interested as well.

I just had a transmission TSB fixed that required pulling the pan. I found a puddle of transmission fluid on the garage floor the morning after I got it back. Long story short, the dealer is replacing the pan because it's leaking around the back of it. They weren't sure if it was the gasket or pan, but they're not taking any chances and are replacing both. I guess a bean counter decided plastic was cheaper than metal, but what a pain.

Plastic is such a bad idea in engines and trannys. I know they are going for cost savings and weight, but a plastic surface will never have the straightness to seal like metal. Plastic pump gears inside, heat, wear are just issues waiting to happen.

I do not know if Ford is as bad a Dodge when it comes to parts that last until the warranty ends.

My policy is to drop the fluid that is in the bottom of the trans every 30K. By doing this, I'm rolling over ~90% of the fluid every ~120,000 miles or ~6 years with my duty cycle.

The fluid does breakdown and lose it's shear strength over time. I made the mistake with my 2007 F150 of reading the owner's manual and believing it when it said to change the fluid at 150,000 for a non-towing vehicle. At 110,000 miles the fluid broke down and the clutches started to slip. I immediately researched it and changed out all of the fluid (a real pain of a job), I did it again proactively at 180,000 and the truck/transmission is still going strong at 205,000.

Since then, I've been dropping the fluid in the pan every 30K on all of my Automatics. Looking at the videos of what it takes to drop the fluid in the 10R's with the remote cooler, heat sheilds, exhaust crossover, etc....I'm springing for the pan with the plug. After the initial change, I only plan on changing the filter every 120,000 since they are basically just screens to keep the cats and dogs out. So, the pan with the plug will make the changes in between the filter changes a non event, not to mention avoiding all of the risk with getting the plastic pan to reseal after dropping it for the filter changes.

I think that's the deep one, the regular one lists the Expy for 2018-22
