I have a 2014 EL Limited 4x4. 130,000 miles. As I increase speed the humming from the front end gets louder and louder. When I turn to the right the noise goes away. It also goes in and out if I hit bumps while turning. I replaced the wheel bearing hub and it is still the same Tires are new. Is it a vacuum issue with the IWE? Or something else. Any help will be appreciated.

Could very well be an issue with the IWEs. Had a mechanic tell me that on these trucks the hubs and IWEs should be replaced at the same time, as a failure of one will wear the other out prematurely. Of course mine was the other direction - replaced the IWEs about 10k ago and did not replace the hubs, and now have the same growling you're describing. Both hubs and new IWEs have been prescribed. Now just saving up that $$.

BTW, did you do both hubs? Or just one? If just one, which one?

Could be wheel bearings, but also might be the front Diff. I had a Gen2 and had the front Wheel Bearing replaced at 50k miles. My Gen3? Rebuildt the front Diff at 47k miles. The front drive shaft always spins, even when you are in “2WD” mode. So those bearings do wear and hum. Good luck!

I was going to say bearings too. Had a similar noise on a car and that was the culprit.

Houselr - did you ever find the cause? Our 2018 Limited is doing the same thing. I've replaced the wheel hub. Thinking about replacing the IWE next, but that may just be tossing money down the drain from what I've been reading.

Does the noise go away in AWD mode? Mine did. Hubs first followed by IWEs. IWEs were the root cause. Not a difficult DIY job for either.

Noise seems about the same whether in AWD or 2WD. I have the IWE but not sure if I want to replace it or return it and save the $200.

Wondering if it could be an issue with the driveshaft, differential, etc. Not sure where to look next. I may just throw in the towel and bring it to the dealership. Not ideal but at this point I feel like I'm just throwing money and new parts at it hoping it fixes the issue. The dealer may be able to pinpoint the problem.

My buddy farmed out the replacement of the Hub the iwe and the axle CV to an independent shop. I think they used all Dorman parts. I want to say the bill was a thousand bucks or more. Crazy. Iwe are not difficult to replace

I've now replaced the IWE, wheel hub bearing, vacuum line and check valve, swapped rotors jut to rule those out and I still haven't been able to get rid of the noise. My next step is to remove the front driver axle shaft and go for a drive to rule that out. The only thing I haven't replaced is the axle and the caliper. This is getting very frustrating.

Solved!!!!

It was a locked caliper and bad wheel bearing on the PASSENGER side! Even though the noise was coming from the driver side and the passenger side was totally quiet, the problem was on the passenger side! Drives like new again!
