the screen is not meant for watching movies. So 12 inch is more than enough for say the 360 degree birds eye view; or navigation.

For the other controls, the physical knobs beat the digital screen. Imagine you are driving in snow and heavy traffic; and the windshield is full of condensed moisture and you need to adjust the temperature. Do you want to take the eyes off the road and fiddle on a menu? or do you want to be able to do that on a knob without taking your eyes off the road?

12" is nice, especially for those coming from the crappy screen in the 2018's.

I'll do you one better, you don't even have to take your hands off the wheel. just say "Hey Ford, turn on the windshield defroster" and then say "Hey Ford, set the temp to high" and boom. you just did the exact same thing without even removing your hands from the wheel.
But if you were going to look at where the nob was (like 90% of people do), both of those controls are persistent on the screen and never move, no menu to click into.

It's subjective for sure. I like the 15" and prefer it on the whole over the smaller screen. But it's far from being a great system. I have the usual gripes, too many clicks, poor use of realestate, buggy... For people still making the choice I'd advise to consider your hand size. Hitting certain buttons and using the sliders while the car is shaking is nearly impossible if you can't brace your hand on the side of the screen. My wife always asks for my help to do things like adjust the heated seats unless the car is stopped.

Seems most who hate the 15" screen are ones who do not have it. Maybe justification for the fact they do not have it.
Others seems to complain about tactile feel BS. My Question are these people who hate this screen the same ones who do not have a smart phone and still have a flip phone?
My wife did just turn 40 last month, maybe she is getting old and stuck in her ways. Lol. I don’t think she’d give up her iPhone or Apple Watch tho.

I'm placing an order tonight for a 23 Expedition Stealth Performance and I'm hung up on whether or not to opt for the 15.5" screen vs the smaller one. I typically prefer dials but I do like the look of the larger screen (and it comes with the digital gauge cluster). Would love to hear folks opinions on either screen and whether you think it's worth the $1000 for the 15.5".

Thansk!
I was conflicted on this too. Ordered last December without seeing it in real life. Love the size and functionality and don't miss buttons at all. The new Sync is really nice and love the WIRELESS Apple CarPlay. Not afraid of a failure. As others have said on this thread, there's probably 1,000 other digital systems on this truck for which you could site the same concern. If systems failure is your decision criteria, you're probably gonna want to look at something pre-2000. But to each his/her own. I'm more worried whether the auto-folding running boards will last - but they lasted 4 years on my 2018 so...

Yes, 2022 Timberline here. Functionally it’s awful. Mine crashes a lot, CarPlay doesn’t work, screen goes black. The software is in a really bad state right now, memory leaks, slow processing etc.

I find myself staring at my screen a lot because I want to change the fan speed, I press the button, I wait .75 seconds for the screen to respond. It’s very dangerous.

There is a service bulletin on the APIM failing, that’s the controller module for everything. I had mine replaced at 8k miles, alongside the HVAC module. I’m still waiting on a headlight assembly to come in so I can drive my vehicle safely when it’s dark. Seems like 8k miles was the magic number for me on things failing.

I really like my 12inch screen with the dedicated dials and buttons. The camera button is a must-have on a car this size, IMO.
