Follow up: finally got the vehicle in and the paperwork is written as follows (emphasis mine):

Verified customer concern, found vehicle to make a ratcheting noise when driving, checked for TSBS and SSMS and found the TSB 22-2219, vehicle did not have the MSS without 4A, directed to step 4, vehicle has the MSS with 4A option, directed to discard the vacuum supply line and install the vacuum caps, installed vacuum caps and road tested, vehicle no longer makes the ratcheting sound, CUSTOMER IS TO KNOW THAT DUE TO THE VACUUM CAPS THE VEHICLE WILL BE IN 4AUTO ALL THE TIME NOW DUE TO THE VACUUM CAPS. Repair complete.

So they are saying the fix permanently deleted 2A by removing the vacuum system and keeping hubs engaged all the time? doesn’t sound correct. Is that the correct fix that others are experiencing?

Wow! I am surprised by how wrong the tech write up is!!

The first fix for this issue was to change the check valve on the vacuum line, but you may already have the updated one.

The fix they applied simply keeps the front hubs engaged, however, the vehicle will still be in 2A unless you select 4A. Having the hubs engaged doesn’t mean that the transfer case will send power to the front wheels.

I honestly would not mind this since the impact on Fuel economy is minimal (at least for me)
