I have a 2019 4WD Expy XLT. Owner's manual says scheduled automatic transmission fluid change is at 150,000 miles. Curious what other owners do here, follow it or change earlier?

I'd do it at 100k with all the other services. Better safe than sorry.

I would do it at 60k miles if you occasionally tow. 150k miles is a joking recommendation from Ford, you will probably need a new transmission from your own pocket. Check out several clips on YouTube from Ford techs like Aaron Hines or Ford boss me, Ford matoko.

I bought a new 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4. It is used strictly for passenger use, no towing or heavy loads. Very little stop-and-go traffic, mostly longer trips as I live in a semi-rural area.

I had the Ford dealer change the fluid and transmission filter (no flush) at 75, *** miles.

The transmission failed at 91,*** miles. It was rebuilt under the Ford Premium service plan, and took 51 days due to lack of parts.

I still believe in changing fluids early - but have wondered if the fluid change had an affect on the failure?

Old saying for automatic transmissions: change it early and often, or don't change it at all. Often times a fluid change late in the game will flush out the crud in the clutches that was making them still work properly on old fluid. If the book says wait until 150k, I am certainly not going to argue.

Slow down chief, I'm not worried about "keeping this thread correct"..... You misunderstood my post it appears.

His post gives me anxiety about changing my own transmission fluid earlier than recommended as his so happened to fail soon after and I simply sarcastically replied "why did you have to post this"....

I wasnt trying to play cop on a thread...Like you just attempted.

There are several other threads in the third and fourth generation threads about this and many of us did all the fluids, including front and rear deaths and everything at 60 to 75,000

You could be right. Many things can go wrong with a transmission fluid change. Improper fluid level or wrong fluid would cause damage. Being a Ford dealer does not necessarily mean they will use the correct fluid. You have to be super careful with these things. That is why manufacturers even remove the dip stick.

However, I’ve done numerous transmission fluid changes on many cars (some of them had more than 150k miles before the first change) and never had an issue.
