2022 Limited Expy. Stereo has two sound modes in settings. 1. Surround 2. Stereo.

What do you folks prefer? Exactly what is the difference if anyone knows?

Thanks everyone!

Stereo is just left and right 2 channels with rear being the same 2 channels just front to rear pan.

Surround mode is simulated or is Dolby 5-1 and 7-1 and typically was never in cars just movies but now they have Dolby Atmos which is a new format that can run on anything in one file format.

I am not sure of the full support of true surround like Atmos. But in surround it does a simulation (if the sound is not Atmos) and will use the center dash speaker and spread the sound based on frequency to different speakers.

The Epys B&0 have 12 speakers but in some Fords there is the B&O Unleashed version with 22 speakers.

I like the surround mode.

Sound still comes out of the center speaker no matter if you choose surround or stereo. Stereo sounds louder and better IMO.

Surround for me. The sound is fuller and more balanced. Turn on a good HD Radio station with the music you like and switch back and forth, you will hear the difference.

Stereo does indeed sound louder for the same volume setting. I still prefer surround though. I can then crank up or dial back the volume as I see fit

Those of you saying you prefer Stereo, what is your source of sound? Stereo vs Surround won't make much difference if your source is regular non-HD FM, or low quality streaming. Surround needs to have a good source.

99% streaming on spotify and the random FM use. I recently upgraded the front 6x9s to component 6.9s and mounted the tweeters to the sail panels. Sound deadened the door and back door panels. Much better front stage and fuller sound now. Still sounds better on stereo IMO. On a side note, I probably have a loose wire rattling at high volumes on the passenger side I need to find and insulate. I must have taken the door apart 10 times by now!

So in the B&O unleashed, anyone know what size the subwoofer is/if it's more than 1? 8? Maybe a pair of 8s?
