My 2004 Expedition with 188,000 miles is stuck in park. I had to pull the steering covers off and use a small screwdriver to push down this metal lever to get it out of park. When the brake pedal is depressed it doesn’t make that clicking sound anymore. The brake lights still come on when pedal is pushed. Any suggestions or ideas ?E1E68A42-27BD-4B5C-B204-A8C07F78461E.jpeg

There's an access hole in the bottom trim piece that you can stick your finger in and unlock the shifter. The shift interlock solenoid itself ( 5L1Z3Z719AA ) is about $300 . Or you can check for functionality with it removed.

I had a similar issue and resolved it by adjusting the brake switch wire harness.

I have a 2010 Expedition with floor shifter and this same thing is happening to us. Can't shift out of park. The manual mentions something about if brake lights or fuse is out this may cause this to lock up ... ya know as a "safety feature." Same thing with the OP ... after popping off the plastic covering there is a little plastic button that engages or I should say does not release to allow the shift to happen. Currently using my pinky to push it in every single time I need to get out of park. what a pia.

Turns out my brake lights are out ... having them shipped to the island and hope that fixes the issue.

Here is a pic of that little button for a 2010 if anybody comes across this and needs some help.
