We are on a Vacation and I was checking oil at a stop and smelled antifreeze . The connector seems to be cracked and leaking. Is this a dealer item?
2014 limited 5.4l
It’s not pouring out at the moment, but has 2 spark plugs boots with antifreeze on top of them, I got paper towels to soak it up, I drove 50 more miles and seems to not be dripping much.
I’m 4 hrs from home.
If you're near a Home Depot or Lowes you can run in and get a 5/8" barbed Tee fitting and some hose clamps and cut the broken piece out and reconnect the heater hoses with the 5/8" Tee fitting and hose clamps and call it good. Might need to pick up some more anti freeze too.
I got home, I stopped at a parts store, bought some Permatex silicone self adhesive rtv tape, wrapped it tight and let it rip on the way home, I stopped 3 times to check on it, I ended up putting a piece of cardboard to deflect the drips down on my front 2 coil pacs.
Tomorrow I’ll go get a new hose and fix it correctly. Thx for help.
It’s a fairly common failure point on the expedition. As stated it’s a $100 part from Ford as it’s not just the leaky T piece, but all the hoses with 2 quick connectors and a jubilee clip on the 3rd hose. I can’t complain, my expedition is 14 years old and has more than 200k miles and that piece is the only part on the engine that has failed!! I bought the genuine Ford part in the hope it will last another 14 years. The jubilee clip up by the bulkhead is a little awkward to access but it’s a simple job to replace the entire part and then just top up the coolant.
