So we made it back. Initially I was concerned. I’m very prone to never getting heavy on the pedal when I’m accelerating, I don’t like to hit 3000 rpm and I baby my transmission. I can honestly say that with 4.10 gears, my expy moved through the first three gears very easily and while it definitely roared when I was in higher gears, it never broke 2500 rpm and that was at 60 mph. On flat ground it cruised at around 1800 rpm and on slight hills it was at 2300 or so. I did experience a slight temp increase pulling my trailer OUT of Palo Duro which is a pretty steep climb. It was slow and the engine definitely tach’d up, but it muled its way out. So final verdict is a hard yes to anyone wanting to do it for towing. My motor has 240,000 miles on it and my trailer made it home with an intact tow vehicle. MOG’s we’re rough though which isn’t unexpected.any report yet of how it tows with 4:10 vs 3:31 ??????
I was able to tow without turning OD off comfortably, and when I tried it I definitely saw the rpm’s shoot up so I left it ON. And I still haven’t fixed the speedometer. It reads almost exactly 15 mph over my actual speed so at least I am not in danger of speeding and not knowing it.I can do the differentials myself but am no longer able to do r&r. Thinking about buying a junk yard set then rebuild w 4;10 gears and when I’m totally happy w them paying to have the complete diff installed W 4:10 do you tow in drive or w OD off ?? How much hassle to fix speedometer. Thanks
