Hey everybody, I drive a 2016 2wd Expedition SSV. I’ve noticed some coolant leaking and was told by a mechanic that I need to have my water pump replaced.

The vehicle has 186,000 miles on it. It’s been well-maintained however when we are doing the water pump replacement, are there any other things that I should preventatively replace while I’m in there during this repair. Belts? Pulleys? Thermostat?
While I have this in the shop changing out the pump, is there anything else in the same general area that I might want do on a vehicle with this mileage. Thanks for your thoughts.

Since the serpentine belt has to be removed to replace the pump, I would have it replaced (unless recently replaced). The labor is the same to remove and replace the belt, when a new belt is installed with the procedure.

What were your symptoms? Coolant stain on driveway? Low coolant level? Check engine light?

I haven’t read much on radiator failures on these trucks, but 190k is most likely end of life.

Never ran hot or had warning lights. Even though this is a Florida vehicle and driven in the heat. I noticed I had small spots of coolant on the garage floor after an extended drive when the engine was warmed up. It would be a 2-3” circle or spot on the floor, near the front of the truck, passenger side. Over a month the coolant bottle was down a little, but not by much.
I don’t get a leak on the floor all the time, only once the truck warmed up on a longer drive. This is a vehicle that I usually use on weekends for short trips around town, as I have a company truck I drive during the week.
According to my mechanic (who I trust), radiator was good and he pressure tested the system when he diagnosed the water pump. At 186k I’m glad she is running very well and drives strong.

More than likely coolant is leaking out the weep hole on the water pump itself. The weep hole is there to let you know the seal on the water pump is going bad and needs to be replaced.
You can see the weep hole behind the pully, should be able to see coolant stains around it.
