Trying to install Forward Facing car seats in the third row of my 22' Expedition Max. Ford manual says "Install the child restraint tightly against the vehicle seat. It may be necessary to lift or remove the head restraint"

Has anyone had real luck removing the 3rd row headrests?? Very conflicting information that they are not removable, but then the manual says to remove them?

There is a little write up in the thread I linked below. I chose to remove the cable from inside the seat so that the cable isn’t sticking out of the seat. It is a little more work, but I think it looks cleaner.

I've installed our Britax carseats in the 3rd row without needing to remove the headrests. I did find reclining the 3rd row a little helps them sit tightly against the seat.
Same for other vehicles slight recline is often needed . CHP seat inspection and training this is often mentioned by the experienced officers. The one thing I showed them was something they hadn’t thought of but had experience seeing. They prefer the seat belt strap down over the latch system given the latch system has weight limits. The seat belt strap down system is rarely done tight enough first thing they do when you get yours tested is yank on the top of the seat and flip it sideways or in worst case over forward due to loose installation.

The scary thing they see occasionally in accidents are unsecured seats due to kids / dogs or passengers unintentionally releasing the seat belt by stepping, or even pressing the release button. I had a issue with a grandparent and our dog doing this. I simply turned the belt so the button was inside vs outside and our un belted seat issue’s stopped..
