I have a 2016 Expedition XLT EL and the backup camera has failed and been replaced 5 times, the latest one only worked for 7 days. There is a recall out on other Fords (i.e. F-150's, Expeditions, etc.) but not my model year. Anyone else having similar problems? It is blurry 99% of the time and then works briefly and then stops again. Complained to Ford Customer Service numerous time - they replaced it once but stopped working with me. It's either the 1) design, 2) manufacturing, 3) components, or 4) vendor. Possibly all of them. Thanks

While the 3rd Gens aren't listed, might be worth reaching out to this company:

Bad design. I've had the issue repeatedly on my 2017. As far as I can tell, it's a poor connection in the wire harness. On mine, the rubber seal degraded and the harness halves began to separate. Slapping the trim where the camera sits is often enough to fix it temporarily. I even tried taping the halves together and covering it with liquid electric tape to prevent moisture infiltration and it only fixed it temporarily. I probably should have crammed some foil into the connectors to ensure a solid connection. Just more shoddy design from Ford. Who can't engineer a waterproof connector in 2017? That entire trim piece on the rear gets caked in moisture and dirt, but you never see it unless it's removed.

My camera also works intermittently but only when it's warmer in the summer. Like many others, terrible connector design/placement/etc. In the spring, fall, and winter, it works perfectly. Beats me

I have the same issue; like previously stated in this thread, I smack the chrome trim molding with my hand or gently with a rubber mallet, which fixes the issue. I find mine does it more often when it is colder. However, I do not remember the last time it did it since I have been driving my F150 more for work and driving my expy on the weekends to keep the miles down.

My friend recently acquired this 2016 XLT and also having a similar issue, intermittently. It's in the shop for the installation of tires from 4Wheelonline plus the alignment. We'll try if that would work.

I have it intermittently w/ my '11 EL when it's cold and wet outside. I believe it's an issue with the connector as well. I contemplated tearing it apart and sealing it all with silicone or the like, but for meit's intermittent and I couldn't be bothered.

FWIW, when my climate controlled seats kept failing over and over again, even after nearly every major component was replaced, Ford cut me off despite being under warranty. They just kept noting that the system was "working as designed" despite temp gun readings of only 74-75F on my seats vs 85+ on others on the lot. Quality and customer service are both job zero.
