2020 XLT with only 34,000 miles and when accelerating at about the shift from 7th to 9th gear the RPMs suddenly drop and the gas pedal seems non-reactive. RPMs settle in at about 1,100 in 9th gear cruising. Auto-stop off. Happens sporadically, but at speeds that could create a problem. Added engine "treatment" to gas and replaced air filter. Still happens. Car really too new to have most of the fuel related problems unless just an unlucky part. Wondering if this is the 10 speed transmission problem that was allegedly fixed for my model year design. I have heard tell of the onboard computer having to be retaught how to shift, but I didn't change anything. Is this just AI laughing at me... maybe telling me to buy a Toyota (2003 Sequoia lasted to 2020 with very few problems). Going to make the trek to my dealer, but if this continues I will have to eat the depreciation and buy something not U.S., which pains me. Please advise and share your experiences -- there are so many Expeditions and F150s out there I find it hard to believe that this is acceptable.

"CEO Jim Farley says getting quality up is his number one priority and, speaking to a group of retired engineers, he didn't make it sound easy. “Fixing quality is my No. 1 priority,” Farley said, according to Ford Authority. “It is the most important initiative in the whole company."

Did you purchase the vehicle new, or as a used one? If you purchased it from a previous owner, then that would make sense for the transmission module to relearn. Well, even if the problem is caused by relearning, it still should not be so rough. It would be completely a software issue and I assume Ford cannot afford high quality IT programmers like Scilicon Valley.

The vehicle should be covered b the 5-year / 60,000 miles power train warranty (no deductible). Take it to a Ford dealer for diagnosis and repair.

Vehicle purchased new. My Ford Dealership, which is great for customer service, got me in with an early appointment. Could not reproduce on road test, but I explained the issue and had video ... just in case. Transmission lead was familiar with the issue, which we discussed on road test, and (1) tech applied TSB to reset transmission learning (seems confident that it will correct issue) and (2) it was transmission warranty covered. I do not know what will happen over time, but I definitely could tell on the ride home from RPMs and shifting that something was reset. For the time being, it drives "normal." My fear as that the software will eventually "manage" my driving to DOT and EPA goals. TSB noted was 22-2139.

Mine is doing this, I bought used with 42k on it. My friend who works for Ford said 2020 transmissions have an issue with switching gears. Well known problem with the mechanics but no recall

About a tank and a half of gas later, the problem is worse after reset. Going to give it another tank or two of gas. It was not like this the first two to almost three years! So bad get that it can cause mini-motion sickness. RPMs also shot way up without engaging next gear at about 5 or 6. Stupid "Green" engineering. No need for 10 gears for the fractional MPG saving across the fleet. If this keeps going -- off to Nissan or Toyota.

It's possible the RPMs shooting up is TSB 22-2145 (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10214870-0001.pdf). My 2018 would drop into neutral on a downshift, rev up, then clunk back into gear and be fine for a while.

Update: Seemed to get better for a few days and today it almost stranded me in the middle of a four-lane road. I have an appointment to get it checked out if I can get there with the vehicle (or get it towed). I have an expensive almost new piece of... well you know. Let's see what Ford can do and then I can revisit this post. Last time I had this much trouble with an SUV was also American Made (Chevy) and then when I had an expensive repair -- traded it.
