Special Service Message 51346 2022-2023 Expedition - Liftgate Spoiler Contacting Roof In Freezing Temperatures

Released February 07, 2023

Some 2022-2023 Expedition vehicles may exhibit the liftgate spoiler contacting the roof during freezing temperatures when ice is present. Engineering is currently investigating this concern. To correct the condition, repair the spoiler and roof per Workshop Manual, Section 501-03/501-28. For claiming, use causal part 7844210.

The inclusion of "For claiming, use causal part 7844210" to standardize warranty claim submissions means the repair is being covered, absent any obvious secondary contributing factor.

It's about time they recognized this as a design/build issue. I suspect build because it seems to be confined to 22-23 MY's. What did they change? Had to be something.

SSM 51369 2022-2023 Expedition - Liftgate Spoiler Contacting Roof In Freezing Temperatures - Built On Or Before 26-Jan-2023

Some 2022-2023 Expedition vehicles (not including Expedition MAX) built on or before 26-Jan-2023 may exhibit the liftgate spoiler contacting the roof during freezing temperatures when ice is present. This may be due to an insufficient margin between the liftgate spoiler and the roof at the roof center line area. To correct the condition, repair the spoiler and roof per Workshop Manual, Section 501-03/501-28. Make sure that the margin between the liftgate spoiler and the roof is a minimum of 6.5 mm at the roof centerline after liftgate adjustment. For claiming, use causal part 7844210.

Any chance there’s a visual in what this 6.5mm adjustment is? I’d much prefer to have it adjusted before damage, as opposed to after…
