Hi everyone, I have a problem, I only have one key for my 08 Ford Expedition. Since I live in Germany, I unfortunately cannot go to the local Ford dealer because they do not repair US vehicles and do not supply spare parts. Now I wanted to order keys in the USA, preferably from Strattec, because I know that they work. Then have it cut by the locksmith and program it in using Forscan.

The actual problem: an S is stamped on my key. So it's 40 bit chip.

Then there is the key stamped with SA. This has an 80 bit chip.

So one says only take the S key, the other says the SA can also be taken, would be downward compatible. What is right? I am confused.

Thanks for help.

I too have an 08 and the key has S not SA, I made two separate purchases from Amazon in both listings they said "40 bit" but on the packaging said 80 bit. Read through comments and someone posted that the 80 bit was backward compatible with the 40. It's also widely reported on the web that they keys are backward compatible. However I've only one key and saw that with Forscan that key will be erased as part of the process of programming new key(s).

Has anyone programmed the Amazon 80 bit keys for a 40 bit car?

Thanks in advance,

Peter
