As the title says. Dont know when car manufacturers decided that audio AUX input port isnt needed in recent car models, since the car owners aren't really looking for clear fidelity listening pleasure by plugging in their iPod/HiRes Player/Mobile - and will remain content and happy with near lossy bluetooth connectivity (may it be AptX-xx / LDAC - although not sure that if any car audio does provide these bluetooth codecs natively in headunits).
To remedy my gripes, i finally took the plunge and ordered the USB-AUX car input convertor to have the 3.5mm audio jack input from my mobile having the FLAC/Mp3 audio collection in-memory and remaining via cloud streaming apps. Once you plug it in - it shows up as USB AUX on Sync 3 screen (with a constantly playing time seek bar - since i tried plugging it in the PC the device shows up as Apple Ipod/Nano - so it emulates a compatible player which Sync 3 can recognize)
I paired it up with a USB C to USB A (female) convertor to utilize USB C input in the center mobile charging console. The other USB A input I was using to charge some needed devices.
I was using my trusty old mini headphone amp (FiiO A1) in my previous car, so i needed it to fit in the sound setup as well. This mini guy does really adds the required kick in the sound. Once you are used to it - you will want it - especially when you dont have the budget/ dont want to add hefty aftermarket floor or underseat mounted car amplifiers/pre etc. It is enough for me may depend upon personal taste.
I hooked up the FiiO to USB-AUX like below.
To give sound input to FiiO i was using an old N915F (Note Edge) (silver input jack at the bottom) solely as a sound player. It is rooted and has been loaded with the awesome ARISE audio which is able to drive next-level sound from the mobiles. It does work more better with olders mobiles when rooting and custom sound mods were easily doable.
My tested sound mods as below - with each one tuned to personal preferences.
Viper4Android (the mother of it all)
Dolby ATMOS
The final setup with everything connected. Not very neat - however will work on aesthetics in a bit after I make sure the final sound is tuned to my liking. An important aspect of the whole setup are the speakers - which as I know are Ford stock standard and not any known brand (guess they are Bose in Limited and Platinum editions). However I have seen than sometimes mid priced decent speakers can also drive good sound depending on the input signal. The range may be limited in some cases - however would be hardly noticeable in real world experience (since I haven't tried so cannot say - how do Martin Logan, Nakamichi, Mark Levinson and B&O sound in a car).
The sound seems vastly improved now as previously I was using bluetooth and the high, mid, lows were not so crisp. Did some slider adjustments for these three on the Sync 3 sound menu options as well.
Would welcome comments /observations and any possible suggestions for improvement.
Thanks.
